Defo a changing of the guard here imo.
Wouldn't want to be an odds compiler in this spot, having to price up next year's world champs. Be interesting to see how they go about it.

Lewis 5/1 to retain crown

Sky Bet have installed Adrian Lewis as the 5/1 second favourite to win the 2012 PDC World Championships following his 2011 success at Alexandra Palace.

The 25-year-old beat Gary Anderson 7-5 in the final on Monday night and is among the favourites for next years’ title.

Phil Taylor heads the market at 5/2 and he will be looking to bounce back from his quarter-final knockout to Mark Webster (16/1) next time round. The 15-time World Champion was going for a third successive victory in north London and will no doubt be the man to beat when the tournament gets underway at the end of the year.

The world number three, James Wade, crashed out of this year’s tournament in the second round and is 7/1 to win next years event. Meanwhile this years’ beaten finalist Gary Anderson is 5/1, with 2007 champion, Raymond van Barneveld 16/1.

Craig Ibbotson said: “This year’s World Championships were a great spectacle which finally saw the field catching Taylor up. It’s now anyone’s guess how Taylor responds in the 2011 campaign and whether or not the likes of Lewis and Anderson kick on to a new level.

“The 5/2 on offer at Sky Bet for Taylor could be made to look ludicrous come next year’s World Championships!”

After seeing a nine-dart finish in the final at Ally Pally the online betting firm also go 5/1 that there’s another nine-dart finish in next years final.

If I had the money to make long term bets I'd have the abs world on Taylor to win next year.

Not me, start of the inevitable Taylor decline for me, start of a new Stoke era. No saying what the true price about Lewis actually is. Always love those bets. All in on Lewis at 15-2.

theres just too many good players out there nowadays to be sure of a taylor victory, theres atleast 6 or 7 who can actualy compete with him now and beat him, kinda hope taylor never wins it again and it is spread evenly between the new crop of players coming out over the next 10 years.

when sky sports took over the darting coverage (certainly when i can remember) there was a core players of Colin Lloyd, Peter Manley, Wayne Mardle etc and these guys were never good enough to beat Taylor, they all seem to have been replaced now by a group of players who really can beat Taylor, and its great
