One of my teeth has become really sensitive. The one right at the side on the top. I can't see a dentist for a couple of weeks, so any tips on how to stop it hurting?

I don't currently have a dentist. NHS waiting times in Leeds are usually ages apparantly but managed to get myself an appointment in a couple of weeks. Would I be able to get an emergency appointment elsewhere? What'll it cost me? |

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water can help also helps keep any infection down.

This. Cocodomol also good. Even better if you can get a prescription for the 30/500 strength stuff rather than the over-the-counter 8/500. My GP prescribed Morphine when my wisdom teeth were driving me up the wall before Xmas. Pain, what pain? Sure did find out the attraction of class A drugs then. Whisky is also a good local anesthetic; use it like mouthwash. |

My Uncle Sam Locke used to undo the spark plug end of a distributor lead while the engine was running and touch it to the offending tooth.
He said it killed the nerve.....

Usually costs about £20 |

The Uni dental hospital will see you try to get a 4th or 5th year student though. Other options are the hospitals can put you in touch and get an appointment for emergency treatment i think its 40 quid. |

I do not. Why? Cheers everyone else for the other suggestions. Will give them a go I misread the OP, I thought you meant the top of your tooth was sensitive. I have one where the top of it near the gum is worn down and sensitive. Dentist told me it was because I brushed with my left hand and you tend to brush the opposite side more than the near side to the hand that you're using so I was over-brushing it and wearing it away making it sensitive. Uni dentist is a very good shout, probably your best option imo |
