From what i remember Ruffin owed either the Frontier or the Stardust. Sold out at peak strip prices for the lot to be demolished and a new hotel to be built on both lots. When MGM hit money problems he made them an offer for Treasure Island and managed to pick it up for $100m less than he sold previous hotel. Not a bad bit of business.
Just had a look on Wiki.. He owned the Frontier until 2007 when he sold that and the 36 acres for $1.2bil. He had intended to flatten it and build a new resort but it never got off the ground. He then bought TI for $600m cash and $175m secured notes, estimating it would cost $2.7bil to build a resort like TI from the ground up! MBN to have that kinda change hanging about lol |
