There was an athlete (Black guy, probably American, but may have been British) in either the 80's or more likely the 90's who used to compete in sprint races with a comb in his hair.

A google search has revelaled nothing, anyone remember this bloke?

Jon Drummond?

That was one of the guys I came up with, but after looking at about 500 pictures on Google image, couldn't find a single one showing him with a comb in his hair!

Gonna have to join an athletics messageboard I suppose..

I had a think this morning, but couldn't come up with the answer.  Will have a google to see, but as it was 'pre-google' it's often difficult to find stuff like this.

All I've found is an article on Jeanette Kwakye who also wears an Afro-comb in her hair when she runs.

You remember there being a runner that did it though?

Reason for asking - I was at a sports quiz last week and one of the rounds was about sports stars who used unusual props - Terrell Owens with his cellphone, Jonas Guitteriez and his spidermans mask etc etc.. and I mentioned to my team there used to be a 100m runner who ran with a comb in his hair.

They all thought I was nuts, and I want to prove them wrong!!

I 'think' I remember one, but it could be one of those suggested memories that you start to remember because someone put the idea in your head!

Have you tried one of those text a question services, like http://www.aqa.63336.com/ ?

Jon Drummond?

Here is the answer 63336 sent:

Jon Drummond was the athlete who ran with a comb in his hair in 1993. It was an accident, but he bluffed a post-race interview by saying it was a joke.

Apparently the answerers get 30p per text, much better rewards than the sexchat line Claw used to work on!
