A virus is a thing that invades a living cell and creates copies of itself to invade other living cells. Flu virus, Ebola virus etc etc. Viruses have the potential to spread exponentially fast.
When something is distributed virally that means it using similar methods of replication (in the case of youtube videos, people posting them on forums and other social media sites like facebook and twitter promting others to do the same and the video reaching a wider and wider audience).
You tube videos are said to have "gone viral" when they become really popular.
You compared your farts to her music. As long as we were doing that, I saw comic potential in her music having "gone viral" and your toxic bum gases containing agents that may well go viral at some point too.
Your farts in the joke see contain actual virus viruses (like the flu and the ebola) and these existed and distributed themselves virally before facebook and twitter and youtube, hence me mentioning 'more traditional means'.
