Beginning on Friday, and as good an excuse not to be riveted to the TV coverage of the Royal Wedding as any, I will be in Walsall for a live update of the third GUKPT of 2011 in Walsall

Friday sees two flights, at midday and 6pm

Lots of people to look out for

Firstly, www.thefirmpoker.com are helping out with the costs of this, enabling me to cover the event on blonde. Thank you to them. Playing for them will be Stuart Rutter, David Nicholson, Dan Morgan, Steve Holden, Ben Jenkins and Mark McCluskey

Secondly Team Sky Poker will be there in force. Names when I have them, but I think it includes Richard Orford. Briefly probably, but it includes him anyway!

Thirdly APAT has seven event winners playing it including BAM and the mole

I won't know which way to turn and which hat to be wearing!.

Are you playing, please post on here and let us know

GUKPT Leg 3: All In In Walsall

The third leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour arrives in Walsall this week, providing a much needed distraction from the Royal Wedding hype with a £1000 Main Event starting on ‘The big day’ and ending on a May Day final table.

Looking back at last year’s results, the Walsall Main Event continues to attract a host of top players every time the GUKPT swings through the Midlands.  The 2010 champion was Colin McTaggart who took £57,700 for his victory at Walsall Grosvenor Casino, while chasing him down into the cash positions (total prize pool £206,000) were GUKPT champions Mike Ellis, Priyan de Mel, Praz Bansi and Karl Mahrenholz among many others.

Leg 3 will have its own £10,000 Champion of Champions tournament on Wednesday 4th May at 7:30pm on gcasino.com/poker.  Take down any non-satellite event during the festival to qualify and share in the unprecedented added value on the 2011 tour.

I am coming down Friday to rail only (escapes the Royal Farce anyway!)

Can I have some entrance details please to get into the casino....ie ID required?  Dress code etc?

Plus is there some cheap digs in the area in case I partake in a 'couple' of beverages and stop over?

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

Cheers,

Alan

Yes ID, photo ID if you have not been before, grosvenor membership card too

dress code as any other Grosvenor, jeans/trainers fine

Hotels. Quality hotel is the worst named hotel in the world but its 2 mins away and cheap

Across the m6 is a new Holiday Inn Express

Hi Alan,

If you are a Member of ANY Grosvenor Casino, you are automatically a Member of all of them. If not, bring ID, or you will not get in.

Dress Code? "Normal" casual is fine. Only Luton & "The Vic" do the "over the top" thing.

Cheap digs? No idea, but mostly people stay locally at either the Holiday Inn Express, or The Village Hotel, which are adjacent each other. They are, as the crow flies, only 200 yards  from the Casino - literally, bang opposite the Casino but on the other side of the M6 - but it's a long & roundabout journey over the bridge, on foot. But mostly people car share to & from the Hotel/Casino, so you could just jump in with any of us.

Avoid, like the plague, "Quality Hotel", it's proper poo.

The plan is for the Sky Poker guys to play Flight 1a, which commences at Noon.

See you on Friday.

Yup, in Walsall, hoodies are fine. It's just G-Luton that ban hoodies. Fingers crossed, I'll bring along a bunch of hoodies for the new Members of Team Sky Poker, & 1 or 2 other regulars who are playing the event.

Dave Johnson? Never heard of him. Claims to have won the Blackpool GUKPT last year, but I don't buy that, I've seen him play.
