Day 81
- When a football fan is watching a match, if his team let a goal in, he'll be proper gutted. It might even ruin his day.
A basketball follower watching his chosen team concede a basket, (although he'll not be over the moon) he's unlikely to feel as if his stomach has been wrenched out with a fruit spoon.
Obviosuly this is because it's a far more frequent occurence in basketball. If the basketball manny was to feel as bad as the football fanatic every time his team let one past, he'd lose about 2 stone in weight every match and be unlikely to live through the weekend. Needs must....
It's the same with me and poker at the moment, playing such a high volume, I'll get around 10 bad-ass beats a day. I really don't care about them, whether they be on the bubble or heads up or wherever. Just get on with the next one, or next six as the case may be.
Day 81 Results :
-$120
($11,205.5 total)
ROI : 8.7% (after 2,024 tournaments)
So, as you can imagine, I'm becoming less and less able to muster sympathy when others regail me with tales of their bad beats.
It's hard work trying not to come across as an arrogant ass by saying something like "I get 5 of them before breakfast, shut yer cakehole"
Results are all that counts, now go get em.

Glad to see your spirits are still high even after a losing session.
Keep it up Tank, a big payday is just around the corner.

Multitabling must help with the beats.
When I'm playing one table at a time, and get a beat or two - it's the end of a session - and I have nothing to do except stress over it. (And then go and make a cup of tea and gradually calm down.)
If you're playing 6 tables at once, get a horrible beat in one of them, you still have 5 STT screens to concentrate on - so you don't have the luxury of agonizing over it, surely! There's still work to be done, you can't un-register from 5 games in progress to go shout at the walls about a runner-runner.
So - it's a great system for avoiding the beat-worries, I think - but then you have to remember that not all of us are blessed/talented/have monitor large enough to be able to play six games at once...
So please spare a thought for us single-tablers, when we're muttering about the horrible things the poker gods have forced upon us.
"Oh Tank, forgive them, for they know not what they do..."

I really liked this post, very imaginative but also spot on. I admire you for the way you handle the nasty red pen days, I think it would get to me if I knew i'd worked hours and hours to be minus profit at the end of it but good ol' Thomas the Tank just carries on and thats what makes me look up to you, I'm sure others do too and that's why this thread gets so many views and posts everyday.
I really hope you make your target, you deserve it because of your determination. Even when you have had problems such as your screen messing about you haven't let it severely effect you. I wish you the very best of luck and I look forward to hearing of more black pen days and perhaps some more comma days, if you're lucky!

Having read this post for the first time the other night, you owe me 90 minutes of my life!
I think 15% ROI was ambitous, 11k in less than 3 months playing mainly $60 sngs is pretty damn good though.
My guess is, in spite of the fact that you are clearly very strong in these games, the frequency must affect the ROI a little bit.
Can I ask you, how do you think you would do if you played 1 table at a time, and 4 or 5 $530 sit n gos a day?

I'm afraid refunds are only offered for the first 10 minutes. Thereafter it's assumed you would stop reading if you weren't enjoying it.
The $530s are tough. Even playing just 4/5 a day I doubt I could beat them for much more than 10%.
So I'd make roughly the same as what I am now, but playing much less.
However, I doubt at this early stage in my poker career I could cope with the downswings.
I might drop 10K in a month, one day I might be able to cope with such things, not anyday soon though.

I take my hat of to you tank, It takes more dedication than I have. It must be a mental strain playing 6 tables for 6 hours or so each day, my brain would be fried.
I like to play the $1/2 cash games for an hour or so, pick up anywhere from $60-$120 and then play maybe two MTT that day spending no more than I won on the cash games. Sort of keeps my small bankroll in check.. if I lose a little at the cash then no MTT for me today until I get back any losses.
The best of luck mate you sure as hell deserve it.

Interesting analagy, and I can see your point.
However, most bad beats take you out of comps, whilst a single score in basketball will rarely be so decisive. I think it's more the conseqences of that one basket rather than its frequency that make it less painful.
Are you not being pissed off by
any
of your bad beats at the moment? Do you think you'd be more affected if you were on a losing streak?

I think playing STTs is different to an MTT - going out of an STT is much less significant.
I find bad beats rarely affect me anymore, i get far more annoyed if i make a bad decision than if i get unlucky.

You are right tank, I have enjoyed it.
I'm impressed by the fact that you do actually think everything through, none of this is on blind faith or ego.
after the experience of the last few months, ghow many sngs a day is optimal as far as enjoying the gme?
I get the feeling 1 a day would not be enough and 40 a day is less fun than 30 for example, so if the money or ffps were not important, how many do you think you'd play on a normal day?

In said analogy.....
The basketball game relates not to a single tournament rather all 60 tournaments that you play during the day.
I would be more affected by beats on a losing streak....but I'm working on it.

Interesting question.
I think that even if withdrawing money from poker wasn't important to you, the thrill of making money would still be where one derives much of the enjoyment.
I would change from person to person but for me it would be however many it takes to log a small profit.
Whether it be 2, 20 or 200. So long as you made a little to put a spring in your step.
This is what I've been trying to get away from though, as it's not best for maximizing your winnings.

Days 82 and 83
- Batches of 30, continously multi-tabling for up to four hours at a time can prove wearisome. Going to need a little more oomph to my groove-thang, to get me fired up to finish this.
To this end, I figure 3 batches of 20 would be better than 2 batches of 30. Shorter sessions, more breaks in between the tournaments, keep the mind fresh etc etc. I'll see how it goes.
Was going to be going away this weekend, of up to the 'Deen for Mammy's Day. Turns out my dear old mum is away to Shetland instead, so it'll be back down the salt mines for me.
Quite right, I've got work to do! She can get her choccys some other time.
Days 82 an 83 Results :
-$38.5
(+$11,167 total)
ROI : 8.4% (after 2,088 single table poker match thingies)
Pains me to report a loss today, at one point it was looking like another comma day. I then proceeded to run very dry.
I shant indulge myself by telling you all just how dry (unless anyone asks
)
Never like getting the red pen out. Very tempting to just update after tomorrow instead. It's important to me that I don't go down that path though.
D-i-s-c-i-p-l-i-n-e, he said through gritted teeth.
One mental weekend of poker coming up. I might leave the house to buy toast, but that's about it.

Just in from a night of poker action myself Tank - of the live variety though. Showed a decent profit after chopping the £10 rebuy and then "investing" my winnings wisely in the cash game - how easy this game can seem when you have nights like this! ROI: 215%!!!!!
I haven't passed any comment on this wonder of a thread yet, but thought it about time to add my praise to your quest, how well it is going and how enjoyable it is to get an insight into your thinking and mood as your progress.
All the best for your long weekend of action ahead.
