Event #46: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em / Six Handed Championship
Day 3 completed

Ten levels of poker were not enough to finish Event #46: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em / Six Handed Championship here on Day 3, so we will return tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. PDT for one final day.

Joe Ebanks and Chris Moorman are currently heads up for the bracelet and $1,158,481. Here's how the stacks look:
Moorman   11,015,000
Ebanks   3,215,000

We started this afternoon with 22 of the best short-handed poker players in the world, but as the hours passed, we lost great names like David Benefield, Chris Klodnicki, Greg Dyer, and the current 2011 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leader; Ben "Benba" Lamb.

Here's who finished where heading into the final table:
Early Day 3 Eliminations

Place   Player   Payout
22   Russell Carson   $35,377
21   Thorsten Schafer   $35,377

18   Daniel Reijmer   $43,976
17   Greg Dyer   $43,976
16   Lee Markholt   $43,976

9   Nick Grippo   $73,695
8   Jeremy Menard   $99,493
7   Ben Tollerene   $99,493

We reached our official final table around 9:45 PDT, and it was stacked with young, talented players. We said goodbye to Mike Sowers, Taylor Paur, Tristan Wade and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier in that order, leaving us with Moorman and Ebanks heads up for the cash and the bracelet.
Final Table Payouts

Event #47: $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better
Day 3 completed
Owais Ahmed Wins Event #47: $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better! ($255,959)

Owais Ahmed came in today fourth in chips and our field was whittled down very quickly in the early levels as we lost several players early on including notables Barry Greenstein, Thomas Keller and Richard Ashby. During this period of time Michael Mizrachi dominated the proceedings, at one point having over a million chips (almost a third of what was in play) while there was still ten players remaining.

Ahmed stayed in contention around this point despite being one the shorter stacks and was barely more than a couple of bets from being eliminated as we approached the final table. Antony Lellouche was our official final table bubble as it appeared no-one could stop the 'Grinder' from steamrolling this final table.

The key turning point for Ahmed was after he eliminated Scott Bohlman in fourth place, placing him almost equal in chips with Abe Mosseri, though still some way behind Mizrachi. Mosseri lost several crucial pots and went out in third and Ahmed started heads up with a 2:1 deficit but managed, in an incredibly swingy heads up encounter, to gradually grind out the 'Grinder', finally finishing his foe with around 30 minutes left of the final level of the night.

Ahmed wins his first bracelet of his career as well as over a quarter of million dollars for his efforts

Event #49: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit)
Day 2 completed
Day 2 In The Books, Mercier Leads With 13 Left

What started with 310 is now just 13, and as if we haven't heard enough about him at this summer's WSOP, Jason Mercier is at it again and is our chip leader here at the end of Day 2 of Event #49: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) with 358,500. While Mercier started his short yet incomparable career just a few years ago with No-Limit Hold'em success, he has expanded out to the mixed games and has been absolutely crushing them at this year's WSOP. He started things off with a final table in the $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit) where he finished in seventh. He then cashed in both the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship and the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship, and if that wasn't enough, he just shipped his second bracelet (and second in Pot-Limit Omaha) just over a week ago in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha / Six Handed. If Mercier wins this, he will have a near lock on the WSOP Player of the Year and will cement himself in the conversation as best player in the world.

While Mercier going for his second bracelet of the series is the main story, we still have plenty of big names left looking for the bracelet and $189,919 first prize. Included in those are Eli Elezra, (327,000) who already has three cashes in mixed-game events at this summer's WSOP, recent WPT Championship Winner Scott Seiver (303,000), Shawn Buchanan (196,500), who among his four cashes at this summer's WSOP has a second place finish in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, 2011 PCA Main Event Champ Galen Hall (143,000), 2009 $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. Champion David Bach (115,000), Jon Turner (145,000), and Justin Bonomo (111,500)

Those who started Day 2 but didn't make it to the end include Mike Matusow, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Tom Dwan, Daniel Negreanu, Pat Pezzin, Gavin Smith, and Robert Williamson III among others.

Will Jason Mercier win his second bracelet of the summer and lock up the Player Of The Year?

Event #46: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em / Six Handed Championship
Day 4 completed
Congratulations to Joe Ebanks, Event #46 Champion ($1,158,481)

Day 4 of Event No. 46, the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed Championship saw the final two players of a 474-player field return to battle heads up for the biggest first-place prize thus far at the 2011 World Series of Poker . . . $1,158,481. After four days of play, Joe Ebanks captured his first gold bracelet while simultaneously becoming the WSOP’s latest millionaire.

Yesterday, a laundry-list of notables were among the 22 runners on Day 3 including Chris Moorman, Mike Sowers, David Benefield, Lee Markholt, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, and Ben Lamb. The latter two garnered a lot of attention as both were going for their second bracelet of the 2011 WSOP. Lamb was fresh off a victory in Event #42 $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship where he captured his first WSOP gold bracelet and the accompanying $814,436 first-place prize. He was also the player atop the WSOP Player-of-the-Year Race.

Likewise, Grospellier was looking for another bracelet to accompany the one he won in Event #21 Seven Card Stud Championship, which also came with a $331,639 prize; in addition, Grospellier, who sat in 18th place on the POY Leaderboard, was looking to put himself in contention for that coveted title.

Unfortunately, one of those storylines came to an end early when Lamb was eliminated from the tournament in 12th place. In fact, he was just one of 16 players who failed to make the final table.
Early Day 3 Eliminations

Place   Player   Payout
22   Russell Carson   $35,377
21   Thorsten Schafer   $35,377
20   David Benefield   $35,377
19   Chris Klodnicki   $35,377
18   Daniel Reijmer   $43,976
17   Greg Dyer   $43,976
16   Lee Markholt   $43,976
15   Tyler Smith   $43,976
14   Gabe Patgorski   $43,976
13   William Thorson   $43,976
12   Ben Lamb   $56,140
11   Chris DeMaci   $56,140
10   Matthew Hyman   $73,695
9   Nick Grippo   $73,695
8   Jeremy Menard   $99,493
7   Ben Tollerene   $99,493

While Lamb’s run came to an end, Grospellier’s continued all the way to the final table, which he began in fourth chip position.
Final Table

Seat   Player   Chip Count
1   Mike Sowers   1,445,000
2   Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier   2,435,000
3   Joe Ebanks   3,100,000
4   Tristan Wade   2,465,000
5   Chris Moorman   3,955,000
6   Taylor Paur   830,000

The first elimination of the final table came when Mike Sowers raised to 105,000 on the button only to have Ebanks three-bet to 275,000 from the big blind. Sowers called as the flop came down {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Ebanks led out for 275,000, Sowers called, and the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the turn. Ebanks moved all in, and much to the crowd's surprise, Sowers made the call.

Sowers: {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Ebanks: {K-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Sowers was ahead with top pair, but Ebanks held a double-gutted straight draw on top of a flush draw. When the {9-Diamonds} spiked on the river and gave Ebanks the said flush, Sowers graciously stood from the table, shook hands with the entire final table, and exited in sixth place ($138,301).

The next player to go was none other than Taylor Paur after his {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} failed to hold against Ebanks’ {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} as the board ran out {Q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Paur received $198,140 for his fifth-place finish. Tristan Wade followed Paur out the door when he got his chips all in with {A-Spades}{9-Hearts} against the {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} of Chris Moorman. The board ran out {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and Wade was eliminated in fourth place ($292,866).

Three-handed battle lasted a long time before Grospellier’s dreams of winning his second bracelet came to an end. Grospellier had grown short stacked and moved all in with{K-Spades}{10-Clubs} only to run into the {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} of Ebanks. The board ran out an uneventful {5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and Grospellier was eliminated in third place ($447,074). The Frenchman’s performance will no doubt go a long way in the 2011 WSOP POY race.

Heads-up play began with fairly even stacks. Moorman held a slight edge with 7.4 million to the 6.8 million of Ebanks, but it didn’t take long for Ebanks to capture the chip lead and build some momentum; unfortunately for him, Day 3 came to an end when the hard-stop time was reach. That brought the two players back for a fourth day with Moorman holding 3.215 million to Ebanks 11.015 of Ebanks.

When the two players returned on Thursday, play lasted just a few hands before Moorman succumbed to Ebanks’ big chip advantage. While Moorman finished as runner up for $716,282, he managed to notch his fifth cash of the 2011 WSOP and put himself in contention for the coveted POY title.

Congratulations to Joe Ebanks on capturing his first bracelet and the $1,158,481 first-place prize.

Event #51: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better
Day 1 completed
Speir Emerges as Day 1 Chip Leader; Liebert, Lindgren, Hachem, & Seidel All Still Alive

The anticipation surrounding Event No. 51, the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better was at an all-time high among both pros and amateurs. Today, their excitement was unleashed as Day 1 of that event drew an impressive 946 players (99 more than 2010) creating a prize pool of $1,227,100. Each and everyone of them were looking to follow in the footsteps of Steve Jelenik, who last year bested a field of 847 to win $245,871.

This year, the winner will received even more than Jelenik as $268,235 has been set aside for first place. The man best positioned to make a run at the top prize is William Speir, who appears to be the Day 1 chip leader (115,300) with 134 players remaning.

Unfortunately not everyone was as lucky as Speir. Some of the players eliminated on Day 1 included Phil Laak, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Daniel Negreanu, Eric Baldwin, Marcel Luske, Mike Matusow, Greg Raymer, Jonathan Duhamel, and Phil Hellmuth.

While many of poker's biggest names failed to survive, a few big names managed to sneak through to Day 2. Alexandre Gomes, Kathy Liebert, Alex Wice, Alexander Kostritsyn, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, and Joe Hachem will all return tomorrow. Joining them will be big stacks David "Doc" Sands (94,000), Fabrizio Gonzalez (90,300), Tom Chambers (82,800), and Robert Campbell (74,100).
