4,056 after 3 Day Ones

They are now expecting over 7,000 runners after 1d

Rumour is, over 4,000 will play today.

I believe 2,600 are reg'd already!

That would be astonishing. People expect less than 5k entrants, so anything over 7k would be amazing.

TightEnd, can't you just post the .pdf? Takes forever to scroll.  Tongue

2011 World Series of Poker
Event #58: $10,000 Main Event

Well, that's three starting days of the Main Event down, one to go.

This Day 1c is in the books after five levels, a relatively easy day as far as the Series is concerned. Our Day 1a (897) and Day 1b (985) fields tallied up to 1,882, and that overall number was more than doubled today. An impressive 2,181 players chose this day as their starting day, a much bigger turnout than many of the players and media were guessing. After three days, 4,056 players have put up the $10,000 required to play, and we're going to have another full house of players tomorrow. Reaching the 6,000 mark is a lock (in fact, we're told that many are already registered), and hitting that magical 7,000 number is within the realm of possibility, at least. Unlikely, but possible.

We had Chris McClung as our chip leader with 162,375 at night's end, but there are some murmurs that Kevin Song bagged up 163,325. We can't confirm the latter for sure, but we can tell you that both men still trail the 209,500 chips that Day 1a that big stack Fred Berger bagged up a couple nights ago.

One of the greatest features of the Main Event is that it brings together a far-reaching group of players, some of whom are much better known away from the felt. The WSOP welcomed a champion from the hardwood today as Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics came out with guns blazing. It took just a couple levels for him to climb close to 100,000 and near the top of our counts, but a late-day cool-off set him back to a still-quite-healthy 63,750 at night's end. Also in the field was Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne, former Olympic boxer Audley Harrison, the TV funnyman duo of Brad Garrett and Ray Romano, Hungarian model Krisztina Polgar, and a 91-year-old woman, Ms. Ellen Deeb. Of that list, only Brad Garrett and Audley Harrison survived long enough to bag up chips.

2011 bracelet winners go at the top of the list of notables, and we had several of them in this third flight, too. Allen Bari, Jason Somerville, and Fabrice Soulier all came and went very quickly, though, all coming up several thousand places short in their bids to snag another bracelet for the other arm this summer.

Former Main Event champions? We had a whole gaggle of them! Seven, in fact. Chris Moneymaker got a special introduction over the speaker system as he sat down to play, but he was run out of the room within the first levels when he got his money in with pocket threes against pocket tens on a jack-ten-nine flop. That was all she wrote, and Moneymaker is still looking for his first Main Event cash since he won the thing eight years ago. The other WSOP kings joining the field all survived including Bobby Baldwin (27,500), Scotty Nguyen (48,325), Dan Harrington (42,300), Joe Cada (58,225), Jonathan Duhamel (41,150), and the Brat himself (and Player of the Year leader), Phil Hellmuth. The antics of Hellmuth's entry were tuned down a bit this year, but he still made quite a scene in the corridor as he walked through with cameras leading and a crowd of fans trailing. It was mostly a bad day for Hellmuth, though, and he could only save 11,800 chips to come back to on Day 2. There's good news for Hellmuth on Day 2, though. He's drawn Table 99 (lucky for Hellmuth) Seat 7 (lucky for everyone!).

Other notable survivors today include Daniel "jungleman12" Cates, Adam Junglen, Ted Forrest, Humberto Brenes, Mark Newhouse (who was near the top of the chip counts most of the day), and the 2002 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion, Praytush Buddiga. Big stacks? Junglen is one of them with 127,025 chips, and he's in the mix with Giuseppe Zarbo (159,400), Daniel Skolovys (151,475), Don Nguyen (136,000), and Sean Picquelle (120,275).

All of those guys (and about 1,300 others) should consider themselves both lucky and skilled to have successfully navigated through the minefield that is Day 1 of the Main Event. Well, lucky, at least. The lucky survivors will play Day 2a on Tuesday at high noon.

That's just about all we have for tonight from the Rio. Tomorrow, we'll get another couple thousand grinders in here to fill out the field, and it's always an exciting time when that first-place prize is announced to the masses. We'll be among those masses on Sunday, and we hope you'll join us back here as we finalize this Main Event field and begin to build the excitement through the play-down days and onward to the final table.

The 2011 WSOP Numbers are now official.  Attached you will find a 2011 WSOP Event Snapshot as well as a Main Event By the Numbers, detailing all the key numbers from this Main Event.

42nd Annual World Series of Poker® Sets All-Time Records

Total Prize Money and Participation Establish New High Marks

Total Participation Finishes Over 75,000 Entrants for First-Time Ever

LAS VEGAS (July 10, 2011) – The 42nd annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) Presented by Jack Links Beef Jerky at the Rio-All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas established a host of new records as poker enthusiasts from more than 100 nations traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the game’s grandest spectacle.  The WSOP remained the industry standard-bearer, with a record 75,672 entries in 58 events creating the largest prize pool in WSOP history: $191,999,010.

The new all-time high in entrants surpassed by 3.7 percent the previous record of 72,966 set last year; this year’s record prize pool eclipsed the previous high of $187,109,850 set in 2010 by 2.6 percent.

For the seventh consecutive year, the WSOP generated a total prize pool well in excess of $100 million.

In the 42-year history of the WSOP, the prestigious tournament has now awarded more than $1.4 billion in prize money.  (Actual figure is: $1,420,374,131)

Legions of amateur players competed alongside legendary poker pros, Hollywood A-listers and international sports figures to establish the new milestones.  Among the notable non-poker playing names competing during this year’s WSOP included Jason Alexander, Nelly, Ray Romano, Shannon Elizabeth, Jennifer Tilly, Shane Warne, Paul Pierce, Shawn Marion, Petter Northug, David Lee, Phil Kessel, Jeff Fenech, Patrick Bruel and Brad Garrett.

The youngest player in this year’s WSOP was Logan Deen, from Cocoa, Florida who played Day 1-B of the Main Event, the day of his 21st birthday – and he did survive the day. The oldest player to participate in this year’s WSOP was 91-year-old Ellen Deeb, who played Day 1-C of the Main Event, but unfortunately Ellen didn’t make it through. It didn’t stop her from pulling out $10,000 cash from her purse to try and re-enter the tournament (not allowed), but she’ll have to wait to 2012 to play again.

"This summer underscores the appeal of the game and the power of this event.  We're so thankful for all those who came from around the world to demonstrate that poker continues to grow," said World Series of Poker Executive Director Ty Stewart. “All across the board at the 2011 WSOP, from our signature gold bracelet events to cash games to satellites and daily tournaments, records were made to be broken.”

Many within the poker community speculated that participation in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship – commonly referred to as the Main Event – would suffer this year, however it remained right in line with where it has averaged the last five years (6,753).

The 2011 WSOP Main Event attracted its third-largest field ever, with 6,865 participants. As a result, the prize pool for the 2011 Main Event alone stands at $64,531,000 million, with the winner’s share amounting to $8,711,956.

In addition to overall participation and prize money, the 2011 WSOP established new records for:

Most million-dollar tournaments: Forty-six of 58 events in this year’s WSOP boasted a prize pool of $1 million or more, up from 44 events set last year.

Largest Seniors event in history: Event #30 attracted 3,752 players, eclipsing by 19 percent the previous record of 3,142 set last year. Year-over-year event prize money was up nearly 15 percent from last year, jumping from $2,827,800 to $3,376,800.

Biggest single day attendance ever: 3,752 players in Event #30 ($1,000 buy-in).

Biggest single day attendance ever for $1,500 buy-in event: 3,389 players in Event #56

Most consecutive years with multiple event winner: Brian Rast’s two victories stretched the multi-event winner record to 12 consecutive years.

Most consecutive annual WSOPs played: Howard “Tahoe” Andrew of Walnut Creek, Calif., extended his record for most consecutive years played at the WSOP: 38.

Most cashes at WSOP without a win: Tony Cousineau of Daytona Beach, Fla., extended his record as the player with the most cashes – 49 – without a win.

Longest span between Event Cashes: The 35-year span between Artie Cobb’s first cash in this event (1976) and his most recent cash in the same event (2011) represents the longest time span in WSOP history.  He accomplished this in Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split (Event #25).

All-time Cashes and Final Tables: Phil Hellmuth added to his record as the individual all-time leader in cashes (84) and final table appearances (43).

A complete list of tournament records set at the 2011 WSOP below:

·         Biggest Heads-Up tournament prize pool in history ($3,040,000) – Event #2

2011 World Series of Poker
Event #58: $10,000 Main Event

Day 1d Makes 2011 the Third-Largest WSOP Main Event Ever with 6,865 Entrants!

The big question on everyone’s at the start of the 2011 World Series of Poker was, “How many entries will there be into the Main Event?” After seven long weeks, that question has finally been answered. Day 1d of the 2011 WSOP drew 2,802 players to bring the total over the past four days to 6,865 players, making this the third largest Main Event in WSOP history. The subsequent $64,531,000 prize pool no doubt astounded the skeptics who originally believe the Main would attract less than 5,000 players.

The top 693 players are slated to be paid, with a min-cash earning $19,359; however, there is no doubt that everyone in the field have their eyes set on the life-changing first-place prize of $8,711,956. About 65-70% of today’s 2,802-player field survived to Day 2, with Mory Little appearing to be the Day 1a chip leader with 179,450 (though his position as chip leader is not official until the numbers are released tomorrow).

Hot on the chip leader's heels are Ben Mintz (176,875), Roj Vohra (167,450), Anthony Miller (166,000), Dax Mellon (161,325), and Antony Lellouche (155,200).

Here is a look at the final-table payouts for the 2011 WSOP; as well as a list of the different Day 1 chip leaders:

1st . . . $8,711,956
2nd . . . $5,430,928
3rd . . . $4,019,635
4th . . . $3,011,661
5th . . . $2,268,909
6th . . . $1,720,396
7th . . . $1,313,851
8th . . . $1,009,910
9th . . . $782,115
Top Day 1 Chip Counts

Day   Player   Hometown   Chip Count
1a   Fred Berger   Las Vegas, NV   209,000
1b   Ben Lamb   Tulsa, OK   188,925
1c   Kevin Song   Diamond Bar,    163,325
1d   Mory Little   Charlotte, NC   179,450

While everyone was excited about the incredible turnout, there was still a poker game to be played. Being the largest of the four starting days, Day 1d seemed to inspire the most action. Pros and amateurs alike packed the Pavilion and Amazon Rooms, but it didn’t take long for the field to start culling itself.

Some notable eliminations throughout Day 1d included Prahlad Friedman, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Steve Zolotow, James Mackey, John Juanda, William Reynolds, Frank Kassela, Tom Marchese, Melanie Weisner, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Jennifer Tilly, Angel Guillen, Ivan Demidov, Alexander Kravcheko, Owais Ahmed, Antonio Esfandiari, David Williams, and Nelly (as in the rap superstar).

Likewise, 2010 November Niners Jason Senti and John Dolan won’t be making return trips to the final table as they became the second and third players from last year’s final nine to hit the rail (Michael Mizrachi was eliminated on Day 1b). While a laundry list of pros fell to the wayside, a no-less impressive list will be returning for Day 2b on Tuesday. They include former World Champions Huck Seed (42,600), Jamie Gold (82,000), Berry Johnston (28,850), Robert Varkonyi (59,525), and Joe Hachem (45,700); Europeans Noah Boeken (78,675) and Lars Bonding (94,000); the always-beautiful Amanda Musumeci (134,800); veterans Lyle Berman (127,575) and Freddy Deeb; the Unabomber Phil Laak (45,700); Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton (49,600); and former Main Event runner-ups Steve Dannenmann and Darvin Moon.

Bluff Magazine:

Cast your minds back three months to April 14, 2011. At this point the World Series of Poker was less than three months away and we were expecting the usual mix of tourists, live pros and online grinders to make up a record field for the World Series of Poker 2011. Just twenty-four hours later the sky had fallen.
After the indictments of PokerStars, Full Tilt and CEREUS had been announced the initial reaction was panic. US players flocked to Two Plus Two in droves, enough to crash the servers of the world’s largest poker news and community portal as hundreds of thousands of players sought answers. Over here on the side of the Atlantic, players withdrew funds in a panic as rumours circulated and speculated that the sites would cease global operations.

Of course, a couple of months after Black Friday we realised that the sky had not actually fallen. One of the load-bearing beams is certainly cracked but the sky is very much where it is meant to be, albeit a tad closer to Earth than it was before April 15. With assurances from PokerStars, a lack of assurances from Full Tilt or CEREUS and the continuation of online poker at various sites outside of the US, it’s pretty obvious that for those of us not living in “The Land of the Free” we are free to play poker just as we were. Unless we had money stuck on Full Tilt, but that’s another Editorial.

Of course, when we were past the initial panic of April the eyes of the poker world looked forwards, to the 42nd annual World Series of Poker. Numbers must drop, surely? We’re going to see a pre-2003 field, surely? The Main Event will be lucky to get 5,000 players. That’s what we all thought, except that now we’re looking at the largest prize pool in World Series of Poker history with the Main Event being the third-largest of the past forty-two years. Numbers are up across the board and many have taken this as a middle finger to the US Department of Justice – you can’t kill the game that millions of people in the US alone love to play.

Of course, I’m a massive cynic. I’m incredibly and pleasantly surprised at the turnout for what I presumed would be a fairly mundane WSOP with almost every event showing an increase in attendance, even the more niche non-Hold ‘em games. Now we’ve had a nearly 7,000-strong field in the Main Event which seems to prove that online poker wasn’t actually the be all and end all of the global poker economy.

Erm... I can’t be the only one forgetting the reportdely more than $200,000,000 (all zeroes left in for full effect) owed to US players by Full Tilt and CEREUS? Nor the fact that the latter allegedly has less than one tenth of that in liquid funds? The argument that if you played on CEREUS after 2007 you had it coming is a bitter and useless one that I shan’t address here, suffice to say there is some degree of truth in it. There are two hundred million dollars trapped online that could have made this the biggest WSOP ever by a long shot.

This leads me to ask – is the record field in the preliminary events, the 4,500 plus field in a $1,000 tournament, the 6,865-strong Main Event field, the packed fields for every single bracelet event of the past 56 open preliminaries... is this a show of strength from poker players around the world? “Hey, you can freeze our online accounts but guess what? We’re going to play poker and you can’t stop us.”

Or is this the desperate last-ditch efforts of a collective dying breed? If you’re a mid-stakes online grinder fresh out of college, aged 22 with no work experience and nothing to show for the past four years besides a 4BB/100 graph at $1/$2 to $5/$10, with half your net worth stuck online and the other half freshly withdrawn from PokerStars then this WSOP is your last chance to really make something happen in the poker world. A bracelet, or even just a final table and a cash or two in the right spots, can keep you in bread and doughnuts for the next year or two while you try to figure out just what exactly you’re going to do with your life.

It’s great, amazing even, that the 2011 Main Event – and WSOP in general – is such a huge one. I love it, really. But watch this space for future live events and see how many of the young, hoodie-and-iPod players we see at the next WPT, EPT or at the WSOPE. The difference is how many busted their last hopes this summer.
