signed in.  Think the English numbers are way down on the glory years.  Would love to know how many make the trip this year compared to 5 years ago

We had 30 from our forum a couple years back, and it's way smaller than Blonde.

Think there are ~5 going this year.

Sounds about right. Even those who go now won't go for as long as they did on the past on average.  It is all driven by the staking groups ultimately unless you are going for a holiday first and foremost.  If the staking isn't there (which is isn't now like it was in 2010) then the numbers going will be down.

Off the top of my head i could name 10 current poker pros who have been online pros for 8-10 years who are not going this year who went every year between 2009-11.  Just shows how tough the game is getting.  Although the proper pros will love the fact these types are not going as there are less pros 'chopping up' the casual money between them.

Surely it's also impacted by people growing up, having jobs/businesses/family?  And if you was with a group of guys, they will generally be around the same age as you and thus will be going thru those stages at similar times?

Most people i am referring to are in their 20s.  The reality is without staking you ain't going to vegas for 4+ weeks unless you are a whale.  The amount of people staking people (ala blackbelt/badbeat/matchroom) is massively down on 5 years ago.  Hence why the numbers of brits travelling will be down.  Nothing against the brits travelling out it is just economic reality and survival bias.  I can still afford to go but it is not worth my time like it was 5 years ago to go to vegas.  Just the way the game is going.  Very tough.  I would imagine if you took away the ego of the wsop the vast majority of mtt online grinders would make more money long term ev wise after all expenses by staying at home and playing against much softer fields for 6 weeks.  Not as glam i appreciate but probably the economic truth.

For the first time in donkey's years, also not going this year.

Regarding staking, I still think a decent mtt-er that puts together a small handful of $1500s and a bunch of $400s dotted around town at no markup can easily shift whatever action they don't want.  They are either asking for markup which people don't want to pay, or are reliant on the markup to be able to get a piece of themselves anyway.  They might well be "better off" grinding online instead, but if you are going to play mtts for a living, may as well put a few bob to one side over the course of the year and treat yourself to Vegas once a year, otherwise it is a grim existence.

Nothing to do with staking for any of the lads from next door.

Think most of them are just giving their livers a break, as 1-2 weeks on the piss constantly when you're middle aged takes its toll Cheesy

None of us have played much for years, but quite a few of us head over every summer...

The last proper laddies trip was 2009, when they had multiple laddies tourneys, and nights out etc.
