You're very one sided in this, aren't you?

I struggle to see what the other side is. Feel free to enlighten me.

As far as I can see he represented a company which stole from his fellow poker players and rather than taking a stand, continued to represent them.

I fail to see any positives that can be taken from that fact.

In words of almost one syllable.

Seperate out the on felt achievements from the UB stuff

You don't need to support or like the man to realise his poker achievements are legendary.

lol. Hellmuth is awesome. Don't give a shit about his UB association. Doesn't mean he's guilty of anything.

Hasn't won a 10k major since 1987.

Still, the fact he can get you to believe he's one of the best is something I have to respect.

Sigh. Stop twisting my words, I said legendary not currently one of the best

11 bracelets, countless other stuff, huge profile helped spead poker's popularity.

there wouldn't have been so many 10k majors since 1987 without him

Sigh that I have to put the other side, but you are so myopic!

Lol @ comparing hellmuth with sebok etc.

Hellmuth signed with ub long before the cheating came out. As far as he knew he was representing an honourable site. What did you want him to do? He kept quiet about it, stayed out of the way and left when his contract was up.

Phil I genuinely believe is a good guy who's had great sense to market himself amazingly well and make a lot of money and at the same time add to the attention of the game.

If you were not a poker player and flicking over the tv and saw howard lederer folding away with chris ferguson and john juanda, I doubt you'd watch for more than 30 seconds. Catch hellmuth in one of his 'on camera' rants and you'll set the remote control back down.

He should've disassociated himself from UB as soon as it all came out, other than that I don't really care. Like a lot of other poker players he thinks he's better than what he actually is.

Moneymaker was the reason poker boomed. Hellmuth keeps us interested but he isn't responsible for making thousands of people play.

Aside from the bracelets, what is this countless other stuff you speak of?

Which is surely even worse? We're talking about the industries most-talked about professional here. If he would rather help UB sweep it all under the carpet in order to carry on getting his paycheck what hope did the rest have?

He had a duty to his fellow professional's to help out and he didn't.

I respect him for the following for sure:

The fact he's managed to convince people he's the best despite not having the results to back that claim up is incredible. More so is the fact he can be associated with a company that stole from its customers and still have a clean reputation amongst so many of you is amazing.

What about his contractual obligations?

I doubt phil was worried he wouldn't get a deal elsewhere

You think it would be hard to disassociate yourself from a company that's stolen from its customers? What court of law would not see that as being hugely detrimental to your own personal and professional reputation?

Are you talking pre or post him joining FT? If you're talking about him MCing before he joined I don't care as lots of people did it. If you're talking about the claims make on QuadJacks radio, well we'll have to see if they're actually proven.

so in short

Helmuth has sold out for money, through his entire life. He has represented a corrupt site, his has generated a "persona" that belies his actual personality all for a few dimes, when he was already a multi millionaire!

The guy is an insufferable prick, shows zero class when in the public domain.

Those who know him personally - may say otherwsie.

As for his poker think what you like
