Have found myself back in the UK but still some distance from a casino. I'm pretty much slap bang in between Bristol and Reading (both an hour away),but the bigger better casinos are a couple of hours away. I've always had a casino fairly close by, so its a bit of a new one for me to consider.
I'm very limited for a weekend hits (kids), but want my 'live' fix. Obviously though travel costs/time need to be taken into account for proper BRM.
It got me to wondering just how far people travel for their regular mid week games (not the big tours/DTD etc) and if me driving 1 + hours is excessive...
As an aside, has anyone got any thoughts on Bristol Gala or Maxims Reading?

Depends how much value you put on the entertainment aspect. Without that, travelling long distances for small buy in comps has to be -EV imho.

Hey. I regularly travel to DTD from home which is one hour away from my home. I don't have family commitments so I dont have that issue to think about, and regarding the drive, although it is definitely not a great idea - especially with the rising costs of petrol, I actually quite like it. Can remember several nights where I've had the drive home to be either excited about a big winning session or can just chill if things haven't gone so well. As was said above though it really depends on how much you value the entertainment side of it, I make my "bill-paying money" online but really love playing live so much better, so for me personally, I find the travelling costs worth it. As someone who says they need their "live fix" i suspect u might be the same

10 minutes. I used to travel about 15 minutes. That's the most i'd be happy with. Any longer and I wouldn't be playing very often.

If you are going to travel that far it is worth going just a little bit further to Maidenhead http://maidenheadpoker.co.uk/

LOL. I live 15 minutes from DTD, and wouldn't consider that journey much of a chore. You must really hate travelling. Used to travel 40 minutes to play at DTD, when I could have gone to Walsall or the Ricoh which were closer. That said I was playing cash so guaranteed to be playing all evening, not sure I'd do the same for a standard mid-week comp (wouldn't be much fun travelling that far only to bust out early and spend more time travelling than playing).

+1 It seems to be compulsory in London for every poker table to feature a dull and unhygenic knobcheese who will just not STFU.

There's absolutely no mid-week action worth speaking of in Essex, despite there being two casino's in Southend.
I travel down there most weekends to play some cash and the Sunday tourney at Maxim's.

We used to travel the m62 corridor 5 nights a week Playing £20-£50 rebuys with pots between £10-13k. Some nights would only involve an hour to Leeds or Bradford but a couple of nights would be 2 hour journeys from scunny to Manchester Stockport etc. These comps died off a couple of year ago and know I think only naps Sheffield on wednesdays gets anywhere near £12k pots on a school night. Once the pots drop below 8k then it's pretty hard to make a decent profit so ain't worth leaving the house for and you either play on line or do as I did and play bigger comps at the weekend and over 2 or 3 days

personally I prefer not to travel too far on a school night as am work at 8 in the morning. however from Cardiff I would travel to Swansea or Bristol if there was a decent game on (i.e.There used to be a £100 1rb/add on on a Tuesday in Swansea that got 80+ runners) but the 40 minute or so drive home was a killer as all I could think about was my alarm going off at 7. Where abouts are you? Sounds like Swindon would be handy for you. http://www.kcclub.co.uk/poker.aspx -looks er...limited but depends what you want (Please note: new Members who wish to play poker need to register either online or in person 48 hours before they intend to play at KC's.) Oh and Bristol Gala is a fairly nice casino, mostly dealt but regs fill in when short of dealers. Standard is mostly poor with some notable exceptions. Cash games are pretty lively- both NLHe and Om Pl

Happy going to DTD which is around 80mins away from me any day of the week.
Love poker, so have done trips to Edinburgh in the car (about 6-7hrs) lasted 3hrs in the tournie KK vs AA. Had fun tho.
May not do that again mind, but driving is a big part of my job, so never bothers me distance or time.
