I guess he thought the Ferrari had seen him and would give him room (as they're not really racing each other)...

Amazing how the car seems to fly over the barrier and then get dragged back too.

The slower cars are instructed to hold the racing line when being lapped and it is the quick cars responsibility to safely pass them.
Mcnish didnt see the Ferrari till he got alongside the other Audi,by then it was too late to change his line.
