Anyone else watch this ?, just watching first part and it seems a much more interesting program than the big fat weddings ones. Shows a lot more of everyday life.

The Stewarts are Scottish Travellers, proudly maintaining their traditional lifestyle, travelling the country in caravans and tents. They believe their culture is under threat, and that they are at odds with householders.

They want to foster better relations with the settled community, but they won't give up their Travelling lifestyle. They've let the cameras record their lives over a period of nine months, sharing precious moments, rarely witnessed outside their own community.

As the number of Travellers on the road shrinks, those that remain are determined to do whatever it takes to keep their culture alive.

I fakin hate pikeys !

That's an interesting statement. Would you care to elaborate?

When you say pikeys, what does it mean and who are you referring to?

Do you hate all pikeys regardless, be they men, women or children?

In before the gloves come off.

I'm sure this is just a repeat of the quote from Gorgeous George in Snatch with absolutely no harm intended.

Perhaps, but I've been hearing that very phrase for 50 plus years. They weren't all referring to the film, and there was harm, intended and caused.

This wasn't a gloves off post BTW, I gust wanted to debate it.

I watched the TV shows and the travellers in general didn't come off great. Not sure if it was because of the editing, but there seemed a sway of threats to village locals who dared complain they were doing stuff illegally i.e building houses/structures without seeking permission first. To dismiss threats of killing someone as a joke does not wash we me.

Was obv relating to the film. No insult intended red dog.
fwiw  i have a fair number of gypsy friends. go as far to say alot of em  think i am just an old pikey woodcutter because i was born  in a caravan and have gone out coursing, drinking & gambling with em   Smiley

never really understood why gypsies take it as a derogatory term.
my understanding  in relating to  a pikey, is they  were pretty much the  only people prepared to do a real shite job in victorian times when on  the road gangs. on the pike all day pounding the tarmac ?
quite funny really when you think about gypsies not liking the term when a vast amount of em go around on the tarmac jobs still today. Alot of them being extremely skilled, successful and fairly rich from it also.

The reason Gypsies are known as pikeys is because, from a young age, they're told to not tell anyone their name.

Ooh! Subtlety. (It'll never catch on).
