The European Poker Tour will once again be launching its new season in the stunning city of Tallinn in Estonia. This is the EPT's second visit to the Baltic States after a debut event in Season 7 which attracted more than 400 players.

Located in the luxurious Swissotel in the heart of the city, EPT Tallinn is yet again set to draw top players from across the Baltic and Nordic regions, as well as the rest of Europe and beyond. The city is famed for its beautiful medieval architecture and buzzing nightlife and has already proved itself a very welcome addition to the tour. Last season, Norwegian Kevin Stani took the title and €400,000 prize after winning his seat on PokerStars.

Among those invited to compete in Estonia are the Season 7 EPT Award winners. They receive a full prize package to Tallinn along with their EPT Award trophy. The event runs August 2-7, 2011.

Main Event Day 1A    €4,000 + €250 is today

Global Poker Tours Limited (GPTL) has secured its third major sponsorship deal this year with the announcement that payment provider Skrill will become the Official Payment Provider Sponsor of the European Poker Tour Season 8, which begins this week in Tallinn, Estonia.

Skrill, the new name for Moneybookers – one of Europe’s largest online payments systems and among the world’s largest independent digital wallet providers – has joined the likes of playing cards manufacturer Copag and luxury jeweller Shamballa Jewels, in partnering with GPTL’s poker tours in 2011.

Recognising the important brand building and marketing opportunities this sponsorship deal affords, Nikolai Riesenkampff, co-CEO of Skrill Holdings, operating Moneybookers, said: “Skrill is delighted to join the European Poker Tour as its Official Payment Provider Sponsor. Now in its eighth season, the EPT has grown to become one of the largest and most lucrative poker tours in the world. Our headline sponsorship promises to deal a winning hand when it comes to strengthening our position as the leading digital wallet and bankroll management option among the world’s poker players.”

Riesenkampff added: “Skrill has a long and established track record providing easy, safe and secure payment options, and as a result is widely regarded as one of the most preferred deposit and withdrawal methods by the online gaming community.”

Skrill and the EPT

As part of Skrill’s sponsorship deal, the payment provider will have a strong visible presence at EPT events across Europe, with representatives talking to customers on the ground and helping players register for accounts by offering various incentives and loyalty programmes.

GPTL managing director Jeffrey Haas expressed his excitement at the latest partnership. “The European Poker Tour operates in more countries and markets than any other tour in the world, and it’s wonderful that companies with global aspirations, like Skrill, recognise the opportunity we provide them to reach new customers in meaningful ways,” said Haas.

This latest sponsorship deal for GPTL – producer of several prestigious poker events around the world, including the EPT, Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) and Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) – highlights the significant and growing potential for more partnerships of its kind in the future. GPTL is committed to finding other business partners with local, regional or international brand aspirations.

s expected, numbers for the second opening flight of EPT Tallinn was much bigger than day 1A with 190 players coughing up the €4,250 buy-in making a total field of 298 runners. By bagging up time it was Oscar Lima who had the chip lead.
The Spaniard closed the day with a stack of 132,000 just ahead of Finnish pro Jani Sointula on 123,950, Anatolii Ozhenilok on 108,125 and Sergy Pilugin on 101,650. There are plenty of big names further down the leader board including Jeff Sarwer, Juha Helppi, Ville Wahlbeck, Sami 'Larsluzak' Kelopuro and defending champion Kevin Stani.

Kevin Green heads the UK challenge with 65,750 with JP Kelly, Matthew Ashton, Chris Brammer and Charles Clark all returning tomorrow.

A total of 40 players will make the money with the min cash set at €6,500. The lucky eight to make the final table will walk away with at least €25,000 with the winner taking home €275,000.
