A massive gap in the photos now. The third day was when Geo fell and we had to curtail the day and miss the next. We arrived in Shap and got digs at a bunkhouse due to the torrential rain and us both developing dodgy stomachs. This was the view to the rear of the bunkhouse. Is it a Gypsy caravan Tom or just a copy?

The day's walking from Shap to Kirkby Stephen is when I first developed blisters and, not to put too fine a point on it, Geo shat himself. Bad times. Another bus the following day from Kirkby Stephen to Keld (the halfway point of the walk).

This was taken on day 7, walking from Keld to Reeth on very sore feet. A view of the River Swale on our trip down Swaledale.

Geo in repose. We were camped here in the hills above Reeth. The second pic shows the two bashas and gives an idea of how invisible we'd be from a distance.

My final offering is a video showing a panorama of the Reeth camp.

Thanks for these Jack.

Easily the thread I most enjoyed on blonde in 2011, in so many ways. Courage, adventure, adversity, stamina, patience, & the photos of that magnificent scenery are just wonderful. Not jealous of you both, I'm past it now, but very sad that I never did such a thing, or at least tried.

Respect to you both, you are an example to all of us.

I do keep thinking about it, Claire. Think Tom would need to be at my shoulder all the way though.

stop thinking, start acting, or it will become too late.  let's get the 'tikay and tom trekking tentatively together' thread going

Great pics Jack.

the wagon is not so much a copy as just not very old, so I doubt that Gypsies ever used it. By the time that was made they would have gone over to motors and trailers.

Probably belonged to 'New Age travellers.

This in a genuine Gypsy wagon.

I remember a quote that went something like..

There are two kinds on people in the world, Those that say "I can't do it" and those that say "I can do it".
Ironically, both are usually right.
