All ready. Just waiting for a lift to the station from my mate.

Hoping to post updates at regular intervals along the trek but we're at the mercy of reportedly patchy phone coverage. Posting pics might be even more of a problem. The camera on my phone packed up a couple of weeks ago and Geo doesn't have (cheap) internet access on his. We'll be taking plenty but not sure how many we'll be able to post till we're back.

I did mention ear plugs to Geo but he didn't seem to think he'd need 'em. We'll see Smiley

I'm really looking forward to it, especially the wild camping (said like a true noob!) and the Lakeland sections. So much to look forward to but they're the highlights for me.

Good luck to us both.

I'm sure you'll find some pubs on the way with wi-fi so you can upload pics - make sure you do!!

GL and enjoy.

When you complete the UK Coast to Coast, is the US one next on your list?

Very nice... it's the camping that would put me right off. Walking through the wilderness is one thing, sleeping in a tent and not having a hot shower every day is quite another.

Arrived on schedule, donned the rucksack bergen for the first time and yomped the half  mile to the digs. After redistributing kit, repacking and filling water bottles, it is now officially 'heavy'.

I estimate it weighs about 60 lbs. Never mind, it's making the 200 mile journey with me.

Geo has been passing on his wisdom. He said 'there's no such thing as a stupid question'. Not sure he'll still be saying it at the end of the trip Smiley

Just getting something to eat whilst watching the England game. After that it's an early night followed by the earliest start our breakfast affords.

We had a nice meal at The Queen's Hotel. The food was lovely but the service was a bit slow and it was a bit raucous in the bar.

I had mushroom wellington and Geo had giant Yorkshire pudding with Cumberland sausage. We both resisted the temptation of either starters or pud, which will come as something of a surprise to Dawn I'm sure.

Breakfast is booked for 8am - I'm having porridge, Geo's having the Cumbrian Grill (fry-up) - so hopefully we'll be underway for 9.

A nice easy 14 miles to Ennerdale Bridge, over predominantly flat ground, to start us off.

Anyway, it's going up for 1am and the alarm's set for 7 so it's time for some shut-eye.

As expected we've woken to a wet & windy Cumbrian morning. Time to test the waterproof leggings Geo's lent me.
