I know most of you probably have it already, but on Jan 1st I thought I'd sign up to Poker Tracker. What a great tool - I've already identified two significant weaknesses in my game and am starting to see benefits of redressing them.
But I am still only scratching at the surface of the myriad of stats etc. What are the key areas you more seasoned Poker Tracker users home in on?

Everyone that knows how to use this software raves about it.  I tried the trial version and just was overwhelmed by all the stuff that you can see.  It's lazy but it I couldn be bothered to learn what it does as it looked very complicated to me.

I may give it another go soon though Smiley

A good tip is to download one or two of the Heads Up Displays for instant info on your opponents.  Game Time Plus and Poker Ace HUD are the best ones.  GT+ is freeware, PA HUD has a free trial and costs about $20 IIRC.  Both are excellent.  PA HUD has some addtional functionality missing from GT+, such as showing all the mucked hands at showdown.

Well worth a look.

Yes I installed PokerAce HUD as well. The showing mucked hands is excellent - and constantly updated stats on how many times other players are entering the pot/preflop raising and post flop aggression among others is very useful.

This poker tracker is cheating right? I mean if you were to flip your opps cards over when he mucks them in a live game you would get penalised.

I think you only see the mucked cards when it goes to the end of the round (ie seeing river and no one folding) then one set of cards mucks - you see these.  On sites with hand histories you can see it anyway, just some dont offer hand histories.

Its not cheating.  You dont see every mucked hand - correct me if Im wrong though

You only see the cards for people who call the final bet then muck.

They are written into the hand history by the poker site software (where they can be accessed manually) and PokerAce HUD picks them up instantly and shows them on screen for a second or two.

Its as others have stated previously - the information is written into the hand history for hands which go to showdown and are then mucked.  Anyone can access this information.  Most just don't know its there.  The Heads Up software simply reads this info and pops it up onto the screen (v handy feature).  Some sites hand histories contain this info, others don't (in which case you see nothing).

I believe that the reason for including this info in the data is for anti-collusion purposes.  Its the same principle as asking someone to turn over their cards in a live game (doing so implies that you suspect something so it rarely happens).  The sites just put it there by default.

All these programs do is use the information available to everyone and make it more organised and accessible.  Its just a very detailed form of notekeeping, and absolutely priceless in terms of improving your own game, spotting leaks, etc..  None of the programs can see other peoples mucked hands which don't go to showdown or any other info that is not contained in the history.

the screen that shows the table layout where you can select who is sitting where, does Poker Tracker automatically fill that in when you load a table up or do you have to do it manually?
