Hopefully, the power void isn't filled by one of these.

I find this situation embarrasing tbh
Yey great - gadaffi is gone/going. If people really think that a "group of rebels" is responsible for this i feel sorry for you. Its an embarrasment to us as a nation that we allow our media to portray a few poorly armed rebels having overthrown the libyan govt, and for those who believe that is what happened its even more embarrasing.
Yes I hope that the Libyan people get the freedom they desire, but please lets not pretend that a few disgruntled chaps with guns did this.
I wonder if we will stop the rebels in somalia killing their own people next by starving them to death..................... oh wait, theres no raw material worth fighting for, oh well we will let them die them

The BBC have quoted rebels who have said that it was down to NATO that they succeeded and that they would have all been killed if it hadn't been for NATO support. But it is still a remarkable achievement for the rebels - even with NATO taking out some of Gadaffi's forces and military infrastructure they were still heavily outnumbered.

I have been listening to the BBC since 8am this morning and not heard that once.
The manner which this is being reported is a disgrace

The BBC have been absolutely dicked on by Sky with the Libya story. Last night, whilst Sky had a reporter sending through live reports from the back of a truck driving around with the rebels, the BBC had their guy stuck in his hotel because the top brass at the BBC had told him to stay inside in case he got shot.

One of the rebel fighters speaking to the World Service. "Nato is the master - it is something we admit. If Nato had not been bombing and shooting them, they would have killed us, this is a fact." It is true, that is the only reference I could find on the BBC about it mainly being a NATO victory with a bit of groundwork from the rebels rather than a rebel victory.

Most people accept realpolitik - governments aren't moral creatures doing what is good or right. They act in their best interests.
Replacing a nutjob as head of a major oil-producing country is going to be to the West's benefit.
Africans dying of hunger - meh, there's no money in that.

Think everyone understand that this would never have happened without the aid of the Western govts and NATO but what really galls is the idea that this brings "freedom and democracy" as I heard on R5 earlier today. It is ludicrous to use armed force to get rid of a dictator and then talk about the democracy. Then only place most Western Govt's are interested in any semblance of democracy is in their own countries.

"Some groups, such as a rock band from Benghazi called the "Guys Underground", used metaphors to cloak the censure of the authorities. The group released a song just before the uprising entitled “Like My Father Always Says” to ridicule an autocratic fictional male head of a family which was a veiled reference to Col Gaddafi." Wiki ‘Al-Soo'al’ (The Question) “Muammar: You have never served the people Muammar: You'd better give up Confess. You cannot escape Our revenge will catch you As a train roars through a wall We will drown you.” Reminds me Spain where they did the same thing with film

Me too, unfortunately it never brings to cost of petrol down..in fact, leaving all those countries alone is the only way to bring costs down.
