Day 2 of GUKPT Goliath.

£120 buy-in, 1765 runners. 270ish remain.
(289 made it to Day 2, 261 get paid, min cash is £140, all those that made Day 2 and don't cash get free entry next year, worth £120, £32k up top)

Blinds are 3000/6000/600 (40 min clock)

At start of hand I have c80k, villian has c100k

First level of the Day after redraw, limited info. I have so far concluded villian is fairly experienced and LAG.

It's folded round to me in Hijack I have AA. I raise to 15k. SB calls, rest fold.

SB has been very active so far (2 orbits). I have raised once in the first orbit to 15k and got it through.

Flop

SB insta shoves all in.

My first thought is "do I have the  " and I have to check. fml it's  .
Next thought is "oh well, if I bust out I can get to DTD and play the APAT ME" (I don't like this and am bothered that it may have effected my decision)
Next thought is "he has previuosly checked his cards after flops and hasn't this time" so I say "have you got 1 spade or 2?" he laughs and says "hang on I'll check"

Questions

Call or fold?

What could he have?

Is this an easy call / fold and I am over thinking?

It's a very easy call I'm afraid sir.

The most likely hands he has here are pair+fd hands, maybe bare x, Kx no spade that he is "protecting" etc.

Yeh sometimes he has a set here but the combos of other hands he could have massively outnumber the combos of 88 and 44. 2pair is unlikely calling a raise from the sb. If he flopped a flush seems unlikely he'd play it like this. snap his arm off and hold!

I would say that you should completely rule out raise / folding with that stack size, regardless of whatever flop comes down. It's a CALL for me.

This.....  Flopped flush would check jam you as you are almost gted to follow through and with these stacks u would be committed . Bare A spades or something like KQ with Q spades.  With these stacks never folding... With 100bb different story....

Thanks for the feedback folks. I did call and thought it was the right move at the time but on reflection I was doubting myself.

Don't like busting out with just a pair, particularly when its a call not a shove.

1 pair is basically the nuts with 13bb, never mind when its the biggest pair possible!

Don't think like that

I'm never results focussed and have been this time for some reason. I was also worried the thought of going off to play another tourney influenced my decision.

No I meant don't think "I don't like busting with one pair". The correct play is the correct play whether its with a flush or ace high.

I think what alex meant was don't think "I hate busting out of a tournament with 1 pair"

The value of the hand is irrelevant in this long run of situations, there will be spots where we have to fold full houses and other spots where top pair top kicker is nearly the nuts.

People say stuff like "A lot of people will bust today with top pair top kicker, don't let it be you" - this is complete nonsense. We need to play each spot to it;s merit and not refusing to make the right play because we'll have "gone broke with just one pair" if we lose.
