Hi peeps. Have a minor niggle with the electrics and was wondering if I could pick some blonde brains.

Lost power on a few lights and appliances earlier today. After a bit of trial and error, I found that the root of the problem was a (non plug) socket in the kitchen that seems to be exclusive for the washing machine.

When I press that switch on, the fourth switch from the right (including red ones) on the main fuse box flicks down, and all those lights and appliances go off again.

We've tried changing the fuse in the socket, but it made no difference, so we've just turned the socket switch off and left the washing machine off.

Is this a quick fix, or are we going to have to ring an electrician?

Sorry for the ultra-boring post.

Sounds like you need an electrician to take a look.
Unless you don't want or need to use the socket attached to it

Electrician. There is a short (probably to ground) near the washing machine socket, it will always produce an overcurrent in the other circuit you mention, tripping the fuse no matter what you do. It's a bit dangerous, don't go peeing around there!

Sounds like an earth fault....pull out the machine...you,ll find a non switched socket, unplug the washing machine plug....inspect the cable for obvious damage, sometimes the cable can get frayed by moving the machine.....now switch on the problem switch....if it holds obv ur washing machine is goosed......
