Virus help: can I recover Safe Mode?

Just got RAMNIT.E virus, absolutely horrific. Blocks virus-scanner updating, access to anti-virus sites, system restore, and even safe mode. I have run various up to date scanners (I downloaded them on my phone and copied across), Avira found 3000 copies of it (i'ts a file infector), had some luck with Tizer Rootkit cleaner. However it's still impossible to start in Safe mode, it just reboots. So the virus is deep deep in my system, in the boot sector?? Is there any way I can gain control of my PC before any booting to switch this off? May be gg pc otherwise

You could try booting from a Live CD.
I'd just format and start again myself.

Thanks, will try.
Did see it mentioned that with 'backdoors' there is a good chance you'll never actually be free of it? :/

I wouldn't feel confident that any cleansing was 100% complete. As Bongo suggests, use a live CD, get any important data off the hard disc and then format and reinstall.

Thanks, I'm working with a Live CD ISO, looks ok and I've changed my boot sequence to CD drive then HDD, but it ignores the CD, any ideas?

Is the CD burnt properly? (No errors, burnt the contents of the iso not put the iso file on the CD)
Is it in the right drive? (if you have more than 1)
Does it say "press any key to boot from CD" or whatever? Sometimes you can miss those.
What live CD did you get?

CDs seemed fine, burnt the contents of the ISO so when I browse I see a folder with some unopenable files like BIN in it.
Drive is fine, only one drive, works the rest of the time.
No option to boot from CD
Got a DrWeb Live CD and an Ubuntu live CD, neither ran.
Virus doesn't appear to be detectable by Windows any more, but there is something there, won't let Safe mode start, just reboots.
Phoned Microsoft, they directed me to safety.live.com and told me to run their scanner and phone them back. They may make crap software but their phone support is good.
Thanks for the help.

Microsoft got me to scan with their proggie on safety.live.com and it wiped out 2500 files and totally screwed Windows in the process, wouldn't even start.
So I did learn something, if you tap F10 in those circumstances it starts a repair mode and kind of puts a fresh Windows back in from installers it finds on your Hard Drive.
Sadly I can't get at the old User profiles/files, but hey ho!
Cheers.

It's a Dell desktop. May look like a laptop if I jump on it some more...

open up in safe mode and then do a 'system restore' back to a date when you know you didn't have the virus. your computer will think its back at that date and not load the virus - then get anti virus loaded quick sharp. this worked for me when i got done!

Once you can get to booting up in complete safe mode with networking and installing and running Malware Bytes, fixed many a problem for me

Good luck

Thanks a lot, seems to be working now. Once Windows was repaired, I had to go back as Administrator into Safe Mode and adjust security settings for the User that had all my files in it.
Lesson learned: antivirus shield has to be on permanently, it is not sufficient to do a daily scan.
Plus: Friends can recharge their bloody mobiles in a wall socket, it was plugging it into my USB that got me the trojan in the first place.
Cheers for the advices.
