Think of twitter differently to facebook (and other social not-working sites).

When you tweet it's like sending a text, but the only people who will see it are those that follow you, or if someone who follows you retweets it (like forwarding a text on to all their followers).

Likewise you only see the tweets of people you follow, or tweets people you follow have retweeted.

If you reply to a tweet, only that person and people who follow both of you will see that reply in their twitter timeline (unless you put something before the @ at the start of the tweet.

That's the basics. So all you need to do is sign up (which I guess you already have), follow people whose tweets you want to read, and away you go!

What are the #'s all about? I don't get those.

Hashtags are a way of tagging your tweet so others can find similar tweets. #LFC would be a tweet related to Liverpool. Some are established hashtags, others can be unique, and some can be humorous as Guy said.

I use the teetdeck app which is free, and trust me if I can use it then it's not rocket-science.

You have to look and see if anyone's sent you a message, well at least I do..
