Just caught up on the updates from last night on Sky Poker.
REALLY pleased for Mariusz.
I sat with him on three tables, including the very first one.
He was seat 5 and I described him as 'very inexperienced, playing too loose passive'
As the tournament went on and we moved away and back together he upped his game considerably.
We clashed in a few big pots and he outdrew me a couple of times.
Looks like I wasn't the only one too.
Certainly looks like he had his lucky socks on in a few key hands over the two days, but still, chuffed to bits for the lad.

Srok wins First Leg of the 2011-12 Sky Poker Tour

Mariusz "Mariusz80" Srok won the first leg of the 2011-12 Sky Poker Tour at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham this weekend, beating 194 other players to the title in the Six Max No Limit Hold Em Event that was the centrepiece of the three day Sky Poker Tour festival that attracted nearly 600 runners across four events.

In an exciting final Mariusz knocked out four opponents before Nottingham veteran Basharat Mahmood accounted for Sky Poker regular Paul "Peg1" Green in third place. Srok began Heads Up play with a two-to-one chip advantage which he converted to victory when his Ace-Queen beat Mahmood's Jack-Nine on a three-Nine-Queen flop, with another Queen on the turn for good measure .

Srok, who qualified for the event for only £5 via Online satellites on www.skypoker.com and incredibly was playing his first ever live tournament, won £12,675 for his victory and immediately goes to the top of the Sky Poker Tour Leaderboard standings. The Leaderboard plays out across the seven legs and Grand Final of the 2011-12 tour with the winner receiving membership of Team Sky Poker and a full year of Tour buy ins.

The Sky Poker Tour now moves onto Leg 2 at Aspers Casino in Newcastle on 10th December. Information on entry to this tournament and Online satellites can be found in the tournament lobby on www.skypoker.com

Are the SPT only for players with Sky Poker accounts?

No - anyone can play them. But if you cash in the Main Event, the winnings are not, under any circumstances, paid as cash @ the Venue, they are paid into your Sky Poker account.

As to getting a seat, almost everyone satellites in via Sky Poker, & there are usually a few Direct Buy-Ins available, too. In most cases, (DTD last weekend was a rare exception) Direct Buy-Ins are NOT made available except on Sky Poker.

So no, you don't HAVE to to have a Sky Poker account to play an SPT, I guess, but it deffo helps. That is, after all, the idea of running the Tour - to attract new players to sign up.

The next leg will be in early December, in Newcastle, a £110 1 day affair this time, & those seats will not be available via Direct Buy-In, or the Venue, the Satellites will soon use the whole allocation. Satellites for that commence next week.

Next up, after Newcastle, will be a 2 day, £220 2 day jobbie, in Luton. That'll max out pretty fast, too.

No, I know, & I certainly did not intend to convey that in my reply - I was just trying to explain the system, & why it is so. Turning up on the day & buying in is rarely going to work at an SPT, I'm afraid.

I was verbally - nearly physically - accosted by an individual @ DTD on Saturday, who was giving me a right ear-bashing about why winnings were paid into Sky Poker Accounts. He refused to accept this logic, & so I said "well you'd best swerve it then mate, as you won't get paid". He replied "Don't worry mate, I wont, all Online poker sites are rigged, so I'll never sign up to one".

Next time I notice him, he is close to the money on Day 2, he must have got in as an Alternate. I give him the payment speech again, & he says "oh yeah, I signed up last night".

, some people should really think before they speak!! Did the person in question cash??

I do have a sky poker account but havent used it for a very long time as I only previsouly played poker for fun, but I have been really trying to improve my game and learning more about poker lately. Been playing lots of home games and pub poker leagues, but want to start playing in some bigger poker tours and and get back playing online.

so i am targetting the brighton leg as my first BIG live event
