Vegas for New Year

Hi guys I'm off to vegas on 28th Decemeber for my 30th birthday/ new year with my wife and 3 other couples.


Please can you give me some tips on good restaurants (steak obv, fish/sushi, Heard that Tao is amazing?) bars, shows etc. We are all up for lots of gamble/poker/ partying etc.

So far we have booked the Grand Canyon Helicopter trip and the cirque de soleil 'O' at the bellagio.

Most important thing though - what to do on New Years Eve? Anyone been before for new year?

O is prob the nut show to go to so wp there.

Yellowtail is meant to be sick for sushi. We had a really great steak meal in Carnevino (i think it's in the Venetian) and Cut and Fix are really good too for steaks. Also had a nice meal at Alize at the top of the palms.

i've been twice at new year. Most people just go on the strip, get smashed and watch the fireworks go off from on top of each hotel. By far the best fireworks displays i've ever seen. They sell booze and stuff on the road, everyone has these giant ball necklace things and huge ice drinks, just a great party atmosphere. Impossible to get taxis though and they shut the strip off for normal cars from a certain time so probs best to stay close to your own hotel. Mandalay had a midnight pool party last time i was there and Carmen Electra was hosting, but probs not what you are after being in couples.

Only seen Ka of the cirq du soleils which was very good. Copperfield was great, so was legends at Harrahs and blue man group is defo worth a watch.

You'll have a blasty blast no matter what you do. Can't comment on restaurants as i pretty much only eat at Earl of sandwhich or Kahunaville.

Yup been there for NY, as milligan says just go on the piss and hit the strip at midnight for the fireworks

might be the wrong place but was an irish bar to the side of one of the less nice hotels. tried my first guinness there too. eurgh

The better of the two bars is the one in the middle is with the piano's, gets really swinging at weekends. Of course if your not into dudes singing live with a piano your not going to enjoy it.

I thought Carnevino steaks were pretty meh that night we all went, the apps were insanely good though. I ate at Cut twice last year with Alex with both meals being incred and it probably is my fave steak house now just edging SW.

Bartolotta in the Wynn is a great seafood/italian restaurant and the people I know who have eaten at Aquinox in the Venetian said that was great too.

I think Tao is meant to be pretty middle of the road from what I've heard and if you're after asian cuisine there are much better option.

I'm no sushi afficionado but I do like Sushi Samba in the Palazzo, it offers a wide range of cuisines and fusion dishes other than sushi including brazilian and peruvian.

Okada at the wynn is very highly rated as well although I've not eaten there yet.

é @ Jaleo is very good and if you can get a space then I'd definitely say it's an experience worth having (just make sure everyone turns up )

You basically are eating in a miniature dining room and you have your own chefs preparing each course of a tasting menu in front of you. A group of us did it this summer in Vegas and it was a sick experience as I'm sure Cos, BITB, Sunny or Alex will confirm.

As for shows I've only seen Le Revé at the Wynn which was incredible and Terry Fator at the Mirage which was really entertaining

For NY Eve itself I would take Downtown over the strip.

Strip is heaving and you can't go into the hotels and no real entertainment except the fireworks, ooh, bang bang. Last New Year it was pretty cold and it was nice to get indoors from time to time.

Downtown has a lot more options to enjoy on that particular night I think

Wasn't as fun when we went as the live band wasn't on
To be fair though Dublin style pubs aren't really your thing are they, as we noticed when we went to Dublin and you didn't come in one!
