also think it's horrific how the rumour mill has started about him.

think it's really, really bad.

That's true, but if we are being brutally honest its no different than when any other celebs dies.

for sure. I could rant about this for hours, but I'll spare you all. suffice to say I think it's bad and there urgently needs to be a revision of what is laughably called 'privacy law' in the UK.

I never really wanted to to take this thread away from its root of a condolences thread but as it has started to stray that way I am going to say this, being gay is not for me, I take a line of each to their own as I don't care what people do as long as it doesn't hurt others.  If a tabloid was going to "expose" Gary Speed as a gay man then they should hang their heads in shame.

The media in this country disgust me, but what disgusts me more is the lust the public have for knowing everything about everyone.

I am not a Liverpool fan but after the headlines that were run in The Sun after Hillsborough I made the decision along with thousands of others not to buy that rag ever again, I still maintain that stance.  It was the same with the News of the World I shed no tears when it went, I never bought it because I had no interest in the junk written in it.

I take the same position with many other media sources, because the level of journalism is shoddy and lazy particularly with sports journalists who are happy to be spoon fed certain stories.

Really don't think people should speculate. Don't see what good can come of it. It was a really sad and shocking event.
I'd rather celebrate his life than endlessly discuss his death.

There will be a minute's applause at the Forest Leeds game tomorrow.

I will contribute.  Cracking player, huge shame.

Why? I'd genuinely like to know.

Yes, lots of us would, but it's none of our business, is it? I'm sure there are some things in your life you consider private, too. The guy has died, in sad circumstances, & we derived much pleasure from his skills. Can we - the public - not be satisfied with that?

Surely that's the debatable bit, is it not?

Either way, nothing that would have come out about him (unless it was something horrific that he'd done) would have changed my opinion of him. I don't much care for newspaper's exposing people's private lives, but the fact is they are allowed to do it.

Whether that is right or wrong is what is up for debate.
