Seeing as you asked, & quite unable to miss a spam op - like a mini-Channing me......

Online bookmaker Sky Bet have installed Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill as 2/5 favourite to take charge at Sunderland after the Black Cats relieved Steve Bruce of his managerial duties.

Steve Bruce had been steadily backed by punters to be the first Premier League manager to leave after their 2-1 home defeat to Wigan – their sixth league defeat in 13 games, and their third at the Stadium of Light. The result left Sunderland in 16th place, just two points above the drop zone.

Bruce’s departure, after two-and-a-half year in charge, now raises questions as to who will succeed at the Stadium of Light. Former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has been installed as 4/6 favourite with Sky Bet, while Mark Hughes – out of a job since leaving Fulham in the summer – is 9/2. Eric Black, who will take temporary charge of Sunderland, is 18/1, while Huddersfield manager Lee Clark – who played for both Sunderland and Newcastle – is 28/1.

Sky Bet’s Dale Tempest said: “While the departure of Bruce is no great surprise, the timing of it perhaps is – many people thought he would get a chance to redeem himself against Wolves and beyond.

“Martin O’Neill is favourite and the Northern Irishman would love to manage in the Premier League again after an 18-month hiatus; Mark Hughes would also jump at the chance of management again. Other interesting candidates include Rafa Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti and Steve McClaren.”

There's some comedy bets in there, I'm sure.

"Next Permanent Sunderland Manager" includes Peter Reid, @ 40/1, & Roy Keane @ 50/1.

Bit like my value bets in poker, those.

Your spam would appear not to be current regarding prices.

Skybet presently offer 4/7 MH and 6/4 MoN, whereas Betfair go 13/8 and 11/8 respectively.

There are some hugely varying books out there.

I've greened out on MH now. This market is very volatile, the front two have flip-flopped again.

is a goner.

thoughts?
Im disappointed he has gone as he was helping make my Sunderland Relegation bet look value (still  big @ 11-2 )

In my opinion ,he has made a lot of average summer signings for big money but nobody that stands out (Connor Wickham for the future )

Sorry to be negative to all Sunderland fans, but I call it as I see it and I think its going to get a lot worse before it gets better

I like Steve Bruce as a person but I think he is more suited as a lower league manager on a small budget ,like so many that have gone before him he struggles with bigger money transfers

Good Luck Mr Bruce

Saw on twitter, so admittedly not the world's most reliable source that his net expenditure was 15 mill.

In that respect, a bit harsh perhaps?

Isn't that buying 5/6 average players and simply selling Bent tho?

Isn't that what you tend to do when you are a club like Sunderland? They're unlikely to take the 24 mill for Bent and spend it all on 1-2 players?

Don't get me wrong I don't particularly like the potato headed twunt, but the notion he's spent an absolute fortune is somewhat incorrect.

Doesn't really tell the whole story. The wage bill must be far bigger now than when he arrived. Probably doesn't include loan fees which could be significant too.
I also think when people say he's spent loads of money they don't always mean his net transfer spend is huge.
He has actually spent loads. He made good money off some average players and didn't really spend the money well.
Loved a centre half deal too.

Sunderland already owned Jordan Henderson before Brucey arrived so £20m of that net spend is just realising an existing asset and isn't relevant when judging his shrewdness in the transfer market imo.

Meh, he's a mediocre manager who will no doubt find a new club fairly soon (Villa anyone?). He'll be part of the rotating group of crappy managers that does the rounds in Britain and who stop new blood coming through the ranks.

To offer 2-5 on O'Neil becoming the new manager either shows that Sky have massive inside info (which I doubt or the Betfair price would be closer to this) or that they have just opened up a fictitious market. (Or are massively taking the piss, which is also an option)

I know we like to have a pop at sky but they are 1/3, 9/4 the first 2 in the market. Ladbrokes are 1/4, 13/8.
These markets are great for all bookies. A bit of good info and good timing and you can make some money but most won't.

If I were them, in the knowledge that MON would probably be waiting for Spurs...I'd try hard to get Paul Lambert I reckon
