If 2 people share a single IP address. ie. two house mates using a router for their broadband, both enter the same table using deifferent accounts online is it considered ghosting? something in other online games that is an offence.

I'm guessing it must be surely.. but if it is then how would you get around that if there genuinely were 2 people living in the same house that wanted to play on the same table?

anyone know about this sort of stuff?

I have the same problem at my flat. I think it differs with each software. The three of us use Virgin poker and can all play on the same table. With the Crypto network we each have to use a different site (WillHill, Betfair and Littlewoods)  if we want to sit in the same room.

Its right that two or more players can't sit in the same room, playing the same table online. Looking at each others cards telling each other not to raise because "I have aces" or "I Passed a king" etc

Imagine if it were a live game and two players said, "We are going to look at each others cards and whisper to each other but we won't cheat, honest"

What you need to do is get a router and pay your isp extra for multiple IPs.

You could also direct one person through a proxy, but I'm not sure how good an idea that would be security wise.

Sure it is.. that's why ghosting would be banned, but what I'm saying is it doesn't help people living in a shared house who like to play against each other in the same game(not sitting next to each other so they can see cards). Surely you have friends on here that you talk to whilst playing in the same game.. then imagine if you lived in the same house. If there were no way round it it would mean that you couldn't play the same game anymore.. ya dig?

So yes, 2 people sitting at home cheating 8 other players out of their money is wrong.. but to stop 2 friends on 1 IP address who want to play against each other would also be a poor show.

There is no way to distinguish between the two. How do we know you're not cheating?

Then again.... if you wanted to cheat, not being able to play on the same IP address isn't exactly going to stop you either.... So I guess it should be allowed.

There is no way of moderating it so cant see it ever being allowed.

But the other problem I see with online play is people can phone/text each other with tactical information.Angry

My point is, if you are wanting to cheat, what is to stop you using multiple IP addresses. Eg, one person uses dial up and the other uses the broadband. Or you get ADSL and a cable internet connection. Get a new phoneline from BT and have two connections.... Request multiple IPs from your ISP. have one PC go through a proxy server... There are hundreds of combinations that do not involve the use of the same IP.

If you want to get inside someone's house there are plenty of ways to do it. Find an open window, jemmy a closed one, break one, kick a door in etc.

Bet you've still got a lock on your front door though?

The lock on my door is to keep me in. I live in prison.

while this is true, sitting in the same room as someone offers no real benefits. 2 people in seperate rooms playing in the same online game can quite easily be on the phone to each other, or as is more rife, chatting about their cards for free over an instant message service such as msn. If anything else being on the same ip makes it pragmatically easier for the poker site to check for any collusion.

I'm not saying that it can't be done or that it doesn't happen

People get shot in this country but that doesn't mean they should sell guns in Tesco's
