A pretty interesting and close spot in day 2 of DTD Monte Carlo.

(Memory isn't the greatest so blinds etc may be a little wrong but the fundamentals of the hand and the board are correct.

Was day 2 blinds 800/1600 and we were both playing around 125-150bb

I had a active image, opening a lot and 3betting pretty frequently and had shown down some less then premium hands. The hand prior I had opened HJ to 3200, been flatting by co and villain (young guy, seemed pretty tight and by a couple of things he had done I felt this was a pretty big tournament for him) 3bet to 9kish. I 4bet to 24k and he folded reasonably quickly.

Very next hand I get AA and open to 3200. He flats in pos, blinds fold.

Flop comes KT5 rainbow. I check he bets 4k I call. Turn Q I check he bets 9200 I call. River was a brick (7 or something), I check he bets 15500.

What you think best move is here? What do you make of my line so far? Thoughts of c/r river?

With your image I probs just bet bet bet.

Personally I just call river but can see why you would raise. I take it we're raise/folding tho if he jams?

As played I hate raising the river. The only hand he's calling with that we beat is a sneakily played AK which we have 2 blockers against.

We'd need one hell of an image to get a value bet paid off here.

We can't even turn our hand in to a bluff. He calls with everything that beats us unless for some bizarre reason we're going to just shove the lot in.

Line doesn't look too bad playing this deep but I think you've got the max so it's just a call for me.

So from what I read you have an image Smiley

What about your opponent? If he's bluffing do you think he's capable of 3 betting the river?

We're deep enough to be clicking back the river to call a raise. It's all getting a bit exciting now though.

Well I wasn't intending on raising the river for value.

Seems to me this thread has gone the other way then I intended. At the time I was thinking he most likely range giving he just 3bet folded to me last hand hits this board pretty hard. Hands like KQ/KJ/KT/QJ/QT etc I reasoned to be his most likely holdings. Wasn't sure if at the time he had may be flatted a suited A or pp and was good enough to realise these weren't winning and turn his hand into a bluff.

Think my hand looks a lot like AT or an average to bad K that I don't think he expects me to fold. Am I getting too deep into levels whereby he knows I am thinking he won't expect me to fold these, so therefore makes a better (and cheap) bluff spot? Also, I don't think there is much difference between having like a poor K (which I believe my hand looks most like) and my actual holding. Defo don't think he is going to be value betting QJ/Q9

So what possible better hand can you get him to fold?

KQT hits his range pretty hard as you've said and I can't see him folding any 2 pair unless you bet very big.

Possibly QT, not much else.

In hindsight I am obviously glad I didn't do this. Just at the time was working hard to overcome the voice in my head telling me to just check raise river massive and rep AJ. As mentioned, with my image don't think this works enough (any) of the time to get him to fold what I am trying to.

In game I probably 100% sigh call. But I kind of think folding the river is probably the correct play.

With the image you have of being aggro post flop, your villain has now seen you c/c twice which looks absurdly strong, yet he still wants to bet the river. Can't see him doing this with less than 2pr, esp with the info on him. Think the flop has smashed him in the face. The only hand we beat that he could potentially take this line is AK, but villain seems competent and deep enough to 3b this, esp vs us.
