The desperation of winning

Why have we started to accept in life that this is a good character trait?

We watch footballers dive and suddenly it's all part of the game because it's all about the winning.

We watch people cheat but we call it pushing the boundaries and reinterpretation in the name of "winning"

I personally find it a deplorable character trait, and the more I watch it appear in society, whether that be in sport, business home life or whatever, the more sick it makes me feel about why "winning" is so important in this society.

It's a truely sad reflection of how we define success in this world. I think it means something very different to me. The guy who cheats to win at anything in life and is then subsequently hailed a success because he got away with it, is the lowest of the low, not a character to be celebrated!

Well it's both if I'm honest, but true greats like redgrave for example are winners!

I'm more talking about people who do anything to win, when they just aren't capable winners usually!

This is something which I have pondered and been disgusted by for a long time!

The post is bourne out a particularly sad game of family scrabble (not my family) which is one of the saddest examples of the above I have ever seen!

But the problem is society is starting to take it as "the norm" which is very sad

You say it's both - but then you give Steve Redgrave as an example of a true great winner.

He wouldn't be if he wasn't absolutely driven to win - you wouldn't get any Olympic champions if they lacked that 'need'.
