M1 closed this weekend - expect long delays around the Catthorpe interchange (M1,M6 and A14) which is closed for 36 hours this weekend to allow them to dismantle the bridge. Officially starting at midnight Friday but expect delays from earlier in the day as the plant makes its way there. They are using 10 large excavators with hydraulic breakers.

Alternative route up would be A1 and across from Grantham? Newark?

You bet!

For those coming up from London, use the A1, or M6 & then cut across via the M69 or M42. Essentially, the work at Catthrorpe is on the junction of the M1 & M6, so just get north of that before joining the M1 if the A1 or M6 alternatives do not suit.

If coming from London, yes, A1 to Grantham, pop into Maria's for a cup of tea, then A52, takes you right past the door.
