Will the WSOP 2021 still be going ahead ? Any news or rumours it could be cancelled ?
Yes.
No.
October is a mile away, but can't see it being cancelled again.
Bar theatrics, the US is now at the point of just living with it, from what I can make out.

Plenty of ways around it, as detailed earlier ITT.

Hi Pete
Just the land borders that are closed / heavily restricted.
You can still fly from Canada or Mexico but then need to follow the testing/isolation rules etc

World Series of Poker® to Require Proof of Full COVID-19 Vaccination for 2021 Tournament and Main Event
The Gaming Industry’s Largest Poker Tournament Series Begins Thursday, Sept. 30 and Runs Through Tuesday, Nov. 23 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino
LAS VEGAS (August 27, 2021) –The World Series of Poker (WSOP) today announced that anyone attending the 2021 World Series of Poker tournament and $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship, best known as “The Main Event®,” will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The event returns to live play at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino with the policy in effect beginning Thursday, Sept. 30 through Tuesday, Nov. 23.
“This is not a decision we have taken lightly–it is made with no agenda beyond protecting player eligibility and the operations of a unique televised gaming event,” said Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director. “The nature of poker is to be in close proximity with your opponents for extended periods of time, and a seat at the World Series of Poker is a commitment for both our company and the participants. We want players to be excited for their return to the WSOP, while offering the greatest level of protection and limiting complications during the tournament this fall.”
Participants will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 one time, upon first registration, to become eligible to participate in WSOP events, including bracelet events, deep stack tournaments, satellites and live action games.
The WSOP will make use of CLEAR’s free mobile app and Health Pass feature. Participants who successfully add their proof of full vaccination through CLEAR's Health Pass may go directly to the registration cage tellers within the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino Convention Center. WSOP will also provide an on-site center to verify alternate documentation including physical vaccination cards, and state or country-specific health passes.
To be considered “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19, participants must receive their final vaccine dose 14 days prior to start date. This policy is inclusive of all participants, press, spectators and vendors.
Consistent with current CDC guidelines and state mandates, all attendees and Team Members will be required to wear masks. Additionally, with the new policy, fully vaccinated WSOP participants who may have been exposed to a person who has tested positive will not be required to leave the tournament and quarantine if they remain asymptomatic since the time of exposure.

There was some stink kicked up with 'Only CDC vaccines' for that Springsteen concert.
When they realised how much aggro it would cause, they rescinded that, and went with WHO approved/recognised, iirc.

It says so in the FAQs on the WSOP site, for foreign travellers

All irrelevant, can't see any travel this year direct from UK to USA

I'd be more optimistic than that. Though I don't expect to travel to the USA this year, I am reasonably sure we'll be OK early next year when I am hoping to go overseas.
I expect the USA to get worse before it gets better, but at some stage this wave will peak there and cases/deaths etc go round. We seem to be at a point where the Government isn't planning new interventions domestically, and that seems to be inconsistent with the overseas restrictions. Right now we seem to be at a point where the proportion of cases is about the same here and there, and we both seem to have reached peak Delta proportions, so am not convinced there is much logic to a travel ban on our side. I expect them to have more deaths/cases in the near future, so don't think the logic of stoppimg trravel direct from the UK ot the USA really makes sense from their side either.
Not sure logic really matters sometimes, as some of these decisions seem fairly political.
