Damn Betfair site down.....my last £14 wasted as was unable to trade in running.

It's a laughable amount, but nevertheless, I'm pretty pissed.

Any chance of a refund?Huh??

Down from around 1.50pm until about 3.40pm. They won't care. Still no alternative.

I don't think Betfair have any concept of the impact these outages have on their punters.  Luckily today I was travelling but quite often I would have alump on a horse that i expect to shorten significantly so that I can lay off at shorter later and when something like this happens you are basically screwed and left with a lump on a horse and like Chompy says they simply don't care.  Seriously considering not using them anymore or, at the very least, not taking big positions to trade.

What do you want them to do when it goes down? If you, say, lay a bet which you were planning on backing later at a bigger price, and they cancel it, what happens to the winner of your original bet? They're going to be very unhappy. I don't think betfair can swallow the cost.

As for "make sure it doesn't crash" they can hardly have more incentive than they already have to keep it running- every outage must cost them a fortune.

There is clearly not that much they can do but I think what irritates punters more than anything else is their overall attitude.  There are punters who have been a huge part of the success of the exchange that now feel that Betfair now care very little for them or what happens to their bankroll.  Trading has been a big part of the success of Betfair but now there is an inevitability that traders will, at some point, lose a big part of their role at some point due to a Betfair outage.....when you have to build that into your trading strategies you have to have significantly smaller positions and that is to the detriment of the overall exchange.

A few years ago their used to be a seperate Betfair that worked when the main site crashed, i take it that this has been made redundant??
If people don't move from Betfair to Betdaq now then they probably never will.

There's just not enough liquidity there or I'm sure that many would.

Wasn't Betfair2 the old back-up in case the main site crashied? Wonder if this went as part of the cust-cotting pre-float?

Thing is Raman, when the site is down, we have a whinge, but then go back. When they bring in 20% PC, we have a whinge, and then go back. When they make the PC 40-60%, same thing.

For anyone betting the normal way, why wouldn't you go to Betdaq and never, ever return to Betunfair? IR mob have no alternative obv.

you should get some api software like geekstoy, you don't have any webpage probs and backing and laying is generally easier.

Another weird one just happened at Lingfield. Horse backed off the boards on Betty and started 2.85 favourite on there after opening way bigger. Few bags done at 1.05 pre race! More bot madness?
