getting rid of an old car
«
on:
January 22, 2012, 11:21:21 AM »
I need to get rid of my car. What with being a girl and all I'm not sure of best way to do it and google is just confusing me so hoping someone here might be able to advise.
Loads of cosmetic damage to it that's not worth fixing, so pretty sure no one is going to want to buy it to drive. Also slightly reluctant to just swap it for £50 with one of those 'we buy any car for cash' places as I've forked out over the last few months for new tyres, a new clutch, and a new drive shaft which I'm assuming might be worth a few quid to someone?

ebay. seriously.
you will get correct value and they will come and get it. What kind of car?
people will start messaging you to ask if they can come and get it and end the auction early.
You should get minimum £200 depending on the car.

Ebay. Advertise it as 'Spares or repair' List the make, model and any good bits you can think of. Say in the advert that it is also advertised elsewhere and may be withdrawn from sale before the end of the auction.
Only accept early offers if you see the cash.

specifically say the price is to buy the car and no haggling after the price is agreed will be entered into.
306 is popular car so should get a good price, £300 +
Just check a few other adverts for info you need to put in.
EDIT - £300+ might be a bit misleading, i'd snap someones hand off if they messaged you offering £250 to £300.

You could probably get away with 'Cash on collection preferred' in the description, however I don't think Ebay will allow you to list it without Paypal as an option. Loads of tire-kickers on Ebay sadly, may be worth talking to the winner on the phone immediately at the end of the auction. You could always use the 'second-offer' option.
Pretty standard to put on a pic of yourself sprawled across the bonnet also, boosts views.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me i didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life.

Just drive it onto the 18th tee @ Ruislip Golf Course, torch it, tippy toe back home, report it stolen, and claim oodles off your insurance.
Be sure to advise the Plod that the thief was a balding 6' 1" tall weirdo, wearing 1950s NHS type specs, with a distinct East Anglian drawl, resplendent in shabby tracksuit bottoms, and an unironed nylon Peterborough FC shirt ..... Justice should be seen to be done, Claire!
