Mate of mine got done for drinking driving (lol @ him) and in order to get his license back he has to undergo a drugs test. Fair enough.

He reckons that as a result he's been unable to drink or smoke the odd joint for the past month as he needs his system to be clean. Can anyone tell me if this is the case or if he is talking complete bollocks? I'm obviously no expert, but I'd be surprised if an alcohol test would show up in a test if you take it after a week of no drinking. He knew the test was next week ages ago too so could easily have stopped a week prior if needed.

Tried googling it but didn't really find the answer so thought you lovely gentlemen could be of some assistance.

I am subject to random drugs n alcohol tests with my job.

I think if he isn't a heavy drinker he does not have to refrain for drink for that long. Just the usual break tween drinking then driving. I wouldn't drink before going into work for at least 12 hours and if a good drink more.
The stiff. We are told it can be read up to six weeks after in your system. Now weather they say that to scare us I don't know but I don't have to worry on that side anyway.

Getting a lot of varied answers.

I'm not overly fussed either way, just live with him and two others and we'd all love to know he was talking shit so we can rip into him about it.

I'm almost certain it was his divvy bird's idea in order to stop him drinking as she hates him drunk.

Six weeks for the dope is about right, one snooker player used to pullout of snooker events a few years ago with a' bad neck' when he had gotvthe timing wrong. He worked to the six week rule but would get himself tested before he went to the venue and if it showed up he would pull out.

Doesn't say anything about testing though. Point I'm trying to make is whether there's any such test that can show traces of alcohol in your system weeks after you've stopped drinking. I'd be amazed if there is and I'm almost certain he's talking shite but I can't be sure. Would love a definitive answer so I can show him up. Or apologise.

If he needs to pass the test to get his licence back, would the sensible thing not to drink or smoke joints until after the test regardless on how long it says in the system?

Once the alcohol is broken down - it's not there anymore - so it can't be detected

haha

this reminds me of my younger years, when my boss tells me that I am going to be surveying some train stations

"great, no problem"

"and there is just an informal drugs test as you will be working on the platforms"

"erm..............yeah...........fine.........when?"

"They are coming in this afternoon "  (monday after ive spent the weekend on a bender)

Now this is the point in your career when you are delighted that you have some friendly contractors in the locker and you havent been a c@#t to them

I pop out for lunch, call contractor, get him to call in an 'emergency on site' and for the 'project manager to get there quickly'

I had never sweat a day so much in my life

Yeah, but the point I'm trying to make is he is insisting that he couldn't drink nearly 5 weeks before the test because it would show up and he stopped coming on nights out etc. This sounds like the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard and I wanted clarification on it.

Only just thought about it as his missus has just pissed me off so if it's the case he's talking rubbish, he's going to get it in the neck for the rest of the night.

@Jon MW: Cheers.

Alcohol won't show in the body a few days after even a massive bender.

As has been said, cannabis is a very different matter.
