Or you could always buy an old lens designed for the old SLRs for next to nothing on Ebay, an adaptor, and maybe make a small focal adjustment. Certainly works well with Canon EOS range

Six pounds:

I don't think a 300mm F5 lens would do the job, MM... ?

You could do this (with a more suitable lens), and you'd almost certainly end up with a manual focus lens. Which isn't the end of the world if the photographer knows what they're doing.

...

not that I'm casting aspersions.

Allo Rex, nah, probably not the one for this job. First one I found though to give example of cheap old big lenses. Depends on how big an issue manual focussing is I guess.... You could have a massive suite of nice lenses for the price of a new modern one though..

Depends on budget.
BUT if you want to do the job right then you need F2.8 fixed lenses as Rex already said.
The 24-70mm F2.8 L would be the nut lens in my opinion or 70-200 F2.8 if you want bigger zoom.
On a cropped sensor that would be roughly 38 to 112, new about £900 but worth every penny and more.
A great value fixed 50mm is a good idea for low light but do you have room to move around, probably not.

On a Time theme, I took this one at Southwell Minster (Notts) yesterday. Was quite happy with it

I was there for the St George's Day parade for cubs/scouts/etc. I got what I think is a good picture of my kids' cub leader. He was also the cub leader when I was there, 30 odd years ago. So could be classed as "Time" as well Smiley.

'Harvest Time'  Smiley

So these are a bunch of pics I took in a mountain range in the northern Philippines. I busted my nuts on a pretty tough trek to get to them and I don't really like trekking but I have to say it was deffo worth it. I need some time to reflect on it, but at the moment I'm trying to think of a more impressive view I have ever seen, there was a pretty big wow factor when I reached the area.

And this is what its all about. This area can't actually grow enough to feed themselves so have to import rice up from the lowland areas where the yields are higher.
