Nice photos Sharky Smiley

I've just joined my local camera club!  Went as a guest last year to a talk and it was really interesting and their calender is full of talks and photo comps so I thought I'd give it a try.  I'll be one of the young ones there (at 41 lol) but they seem a nice bunch and I'm hoping to enjoy more talks and be inspired to take more photos.

Thought I would bump this thread with my annual post of a selection of photos from the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford.

A great day out....

They're all cool but this one reminds me of my biggest missed opportunity. Some military aircraft take practice low flying runs over a reservoir near where I work, on one occasion a Chinook flew just over the tree line while I was waiting at the train station - but I didn't have time to line up a shot. Obviously it's never happened again Cry

Went to see Not Going Out being filmed at Teddington on Friday - we had a nice walk along the Thames afterwards so was able to get some nice shots. Only had my phone with me though.

Beautiful. I love phone pics.

People say, "Wow, your camera takes good pictures".

Cameras don't take pictures, people do.

Had a bit of a trip - some of which took me near Heathrow. Have to admit I was quite taken by how 'cool' it was to have the planes fly quite so low over you - I think I can just about avoid becoming a plane spotter though

We also liked Stavely Hill Ecological Park and the surrounding area's wildlife

I also took some photo's out of a very dirty Catamaran window - but this did give me an excuse to go to town on the post-processing, and I'm not too unhappy with some of the results Cheesy

I joined my local camera club when their new year started in September and it's great.  They have a talk most weeks by professionals from various fields and they've been exceptional and pretty inspiring, although the level of dedication of some of them is probably not something I have.

Every other week there's competitions with a projected images league (digital, projected on to a screen) and a printed images league.  There's an external judge comes in a judges all the photos and gives them either credit (Little artistic and creative content OR major technical faults), bronze (Technically good and an average image within its genre), Silver (Technically very good and above average image within its genre
) or Gold (– Technically excellent and a very high quality photographic image in its genre).  Being new to the club and never having entered a photo comp before, I'm in the Novices league (there's Intermediate and Advance).  There's been two projected comps and one printed and (here's the thin part) for the projected, I've got three golds so far Cheesy  and my printed was awarded a silver.

Despite joining the club, I hadn't picked up my camera since being a member so today I tried to capture reflections in water drops on small flowers.  Didn't go too well but I think I know why so will work on it for next time.  Here's probably the best of the bunch.

Help please

Granddaughter arrived and Mrs typhoon keeps insisting we buy a camera

Last camera i purchased was with winnings from Alex Higgins winning the world championship

I know absolutely nothing about cameras and don't want to wander into camera shop and get ripped off with assistant trying to flog me  what makes him or her the most commission

Does anybody have ideas on what i can buy which is simple to operate and get films developed?

Thank you

Just buy any modern compact with a 'point & shoot' setting.

Something like this from Argos.

lol films developed Cheesy

Toms link will be ideal for you.  If that's too much, just don't use all of what it can do, you'll still be able to point and shoot straight out of the box.  Any of todays modern cameras will be fine.

Congratulations on becoming a Grandad Smiley

Just set it on fully automatic mode. (Usually the little green camera icon on the settings wheel) and you'll be fine. Even tikay can do it.

If you're still not sure, go into a camera shop and tell them you want to buy a camera as a Chrimbo present for your granny.
