we bought both girls 11 and 13 phones at Christmas (blackberry's)

at my daughters school phones are allowed but not to be used only for emergency and to and from school.

they take them to school....(i don't think they should....... but there mum is OK with it she likes the idea that they can contact her/us at any time).

yesterday Chloe's phone went missing in class she realised after the bell rang and went for her phone.

she ran back in  knowing the kid next to her had done this sort of thing before and reported it immediately.

i had finished work my eldest rang me to tell me what had happened i went to the school and got a teacher to ring this boys parents  to see if he had the phone......HE DID

the phone was returned

he said he found it outside the school gates which is obviously bullshit!

OK so

1.should we let the school deal with it?
2.should we contact the police?
3.should i continue to let my kids take phones to school?
4.do i shoot him.....

Police won't do anything as she got the phone back and you can't actually prove where he 'found' it.

School helped by ringing the parents, who got the phone back from their son for you.  The school's job is done and they did more than I would have expected tbh.

You've the phone back.  Now it's up to you to decide what to do.  You know phones get stolen from the school.  If you can afford to replace it and don't mind the risk, let them carry on taking them.  If you can't afford it but like the idea of being able to reach them fast, maybe let the eldest carry hers and the younger daughter can leave hers at home until she's a bit older and more able to mind it.

Put it down to experience mate. Alls well that ends well.

Try this one.
Wednesday in the park next to the school 30 kids or so playing on the slides and climbing frames etc.
Thursday go to the park and half of the stuff has gone AWOL and all the mums say the council are replacing it.
Friday morning before school all mums up in arms because it is alleged Gypsies have taken the equipment for scrap.

Now my dilemma is this. I know 100% who the culprits will be and thought at first to drive past where they live and check it out. Then thought what good would that do. I would never consider going to the police for personal reasons so do I just ignore it?

And why am I sat here feeling guilty about what Tom might say when my kids ain't got climbing frames to play on.

If the school has that mobile phones policy policy then presumably they provide a service where the phones can be handed in to the office on arrival and collected after school.

Mobile phone policies in schools can be a bit of a joke tbh.

The school where my kids attend supposedly has a 'no mobile phones' policy.  They make parents and students sign a form at start of each year claiming to understand this.

Then they send a form out a couple of weeks later asking, "Will your child mainly be contacting you from their mobile or requiring use of the school phone in case of emergency?"  They go on to say in case of an unexpected early closing due to weather or whatever, they'd prefer if students phoned parents from their mobiles as it would take an age for each child to ring from the school phone.  Just make sure the child has it turned off or set to mute during all other times so as not to upset class.

And every year my reply was the same, "Well shit...which is it folks?"
