We used to buy Bisto beef gravy granules, and then suddenly, without warning, they upped and disappeared. Now you can only get Bisto beef gravy granules with onion.

Firefox Spell-checker is crap btw. It never knows what I'm trying to spell.

It has just come to light that Mrs Red is deceiving me.

What has she been using as a replacement all this time?

About a year ago, she told me she can only get the 'with onion' ones. now she's denying all knowledge of that conversation.

Also, she said I'm a senile old bas**rd.

Perfect Gravy

Slice & Dice a small onion, cook over a low heat with oil & a little butter until soft (not brown).
Add water with 2 beef oxo's & bring to the boil reduce heat.
Add juice from roast beef
Take heaped tablespoon of bisto and mix with the left over yorkshire pudding batter + a little water
Return gravy to rolling boil and add the bisto mix and stir... keep stirring or it will go lumpy.  Stir some more and reduce heat.  Bring in somebody to help stirring, small child (stand them on a chair if necessary) or helpful partner if no small children about.
Add a little of the veg water if too thick.
Finally add a small amount of tomato purée (sounds ridic but is incred).

This makes the most amazing gravy, my mum always has something special in the fridge to add, generally some kind of meat jelly which is incred but again sounds wrong.

Simples... thicker the better imo.

Needs to be able to "grip a chip"
If you dunk a chip in your gravy and you come out with a wet chip it's too thin. It should come out with a gravy coat so thick that you can't see the chip through it.

Interesting recipe Sov, going to try the tomato purée some time.
