folding AK pre
«

Last twice ive been at DTD ive gotten myself into a situation with AKo,both times playing 1/2 >300bbs deep.
hand 1,
straddle on,i make it 15 UTG, UTG +1 flats, big stack on the button makes it 60.
been sat with this guy for a couple of hours now and hes never been squeezing or shown down any rubbish, and twice hes folded his opens to my 3bets.
i make it 165 (playing 650ish) with a plan to play for stacks.
UTG +1 folds, and the villain pretty quickly goes all in.
at this point my plan changed,i'm a balding 50 year old guy who has raised UTG and 4bet him and he still wants to get it all in?
i dwell and fold.
hand 2,
well nothings changed really, still 50,balding raising UTG 300bbs deep (no straddle this time tho)
i make it 7, UTG +1 flats, villain in BB makes it 27ish (forgot exactly)
this villain is a little diff cos he is capable of squeezing (probably Championship reg at DTD, not Premiership (hope i dont offend, lol)
i make it 105,(playing 600 or so,he covers) and again fairly quickly im repopped another 120.
i just despair that these people have no respect for the old guys and sigh/fold.
standard folds?
is it best to peel with ak this deep? or poss peel in hand 2 where we have posn?
first post in PHA so go easy plz.

First, open-raise bigger in both hands; at least £20 in the first and £10 in the second hand. This is full ring live poker, you don't need to 3.5x it when you are UTG with a super strong range. Even in online 6max games, many regs are making it 4x UTG with their entire range - you can easily get away with making it more than this in a live game.
As regards the hands themselves, and ignoring the obvious point that you should know what you are doing vs a 5bet
before
you make the 4bet...
In the first hand, you can actually play SUPER DUPER TIGHT in this spot vs the initial 3bet, let alone the 5bet. You have opened UTG so your range (both your perceived and actual range) is very strong, which allows you to fold some relatively strong hands. More importantly you have given a read on villain that he is tight and straightforward etc. Given this I do not mind simply folding to his 3bet. I realise people are going to be like "Wtf? You have AK!" - but it's not like AKo is at the top of your range when you have opened UTG, and most importantly we can
crush
guys like this by
never ever giving them action
, even with hands that seem to be strong from an absolute strength point of view. Of course, if AKo is not strong enough to 4bet for value in this spot and we feel we want to have some bluffs in our 4betting range to balance (and to try to make him fold TT-QQ if he is as tight as you hint and might 3bet fold these for info - some people do!) then AKo is the
perfect
hand for 4bet bluffing with. Just make sure you know that you are bluffing
before
you make the 4bet...
Second hand, calling the 3bet is best surely?

I agree that folding to the 3bet in hand 1 is the best play by a mile, not only would I fold but i'd also fold really quickly, not because it's an easy fold, but I really don't want people to know how strong of a hand i folded and by folding fast it looks like you opened wider and give your perceived range a little less credit than it actually deserves.
Hand 2 peel the 3bet and it's a great spot, he can be 3betting a few things we dominate and he will almost certainly barrel our boards (A or K high) Super deep with a premium a bit sucky to be OOP but w/e

I wouldn't normally try so hard, but didn't have another opportunity I could wait for. I wasn't ready to surrender what I WANTED SO MUCH, that easily, I couldn't guarantee a call with me staying stoic and relying on a flinch "top pair" calling reflex.

4betting a hand for value and folding to a 5bet is NOT necessarily going to be a terrible play btw.

One thing I've noticed when iask players about how quickly i acted, they sometimes have wildly different opinions to my own.
Second one is such a good peel spot. Play the streets
