pre is fine vs unknowns, I probably make it a touch bigger but not a lot, 410 max.

Bet bigger on the flop, jam now. When he overcalls the flop its pretty tough to imagine him having a hand like overs with clubs that turned a flush draw and decided to lead 20% pot on the turn. 8x is definitely possible, especially 8xcc since he's a whale so his range is pretty joke wide pre. 56 also. He could well have a set/2pr that didn't want to raise the flop and 'lose his customers' but is now wary of the turn checking through.

Wouldn't surprise me if you're beat a decent %age of the time but with the size of the pot you don't actually have to be right all that often and I think he's calling off with enough 8x hands that a jam is fine.

i reckon you're going to get shown a set quite a bit here but I can't quite think of anyway I'd fold. Surely we'll do better calling and assessing (almost certainly calling) the river, he might freeze up on 5/7/club river with a set or maybe he wont bet all of our chips or something random might happen which either saves us stacking off

The turn bet size screams like he's inducing, but I couldn't think of folding.

I shoved the turn, but afterwards I felt I should have just called the turn to keep his bluffs in and re evaluate the river.

Tough to keep bluffs in, he pretty much has zero bluffs except possibly 97 (likely clubs)

I mean something MIGHT happen on the river which means we get to showdown without committing our whole stack, or something might happen that makes it blatenly obvious we either have the worst hand (and can fold) or have the best hand (and can value bet) like the river coming a JACK and him chking or the river coming an 8 and him going all in etc.

I imagine most of the time we'll just call the river but I think this line (which gives us the chance of NOT going broke this early in the comp) will be slightly better than just going with it on the turn, although +points for turn jam are that we a)protect our equity vs weaker hands and might stack worse (most of the range he stacks of with OTT that we beat will get scared by a LOT of river cards) so jamming the turn defo has some merit. At this stage of the tournament though preserving your stack is often a more favorable option than taking super thin spots for your whole stack.
