OK, so I'm currently looking for a new (used) Beemer which obviously involves scouring the pages of Autotrader and the like. Whilst doing so I came across an advert for an 07 plate 3 series, at £3.3k (ad has since been killed).

The ad basically says send an e-mail. Obviously way too good to be true, but I was intrigued on what line would be given. So I mailed it.

I received the following reply:

Hello,

I still got the 2007 BMW 320D M SPORT AUTO SALOON GREY 320 D DIESEL AUTOMATIC FULL BMW HISTORY  for sale at the price of £3300. The car is in excellent condition, garage kept and accident free. The mileage is real and I never had any problems with the engine. The car looks and works just perfect. I bought it from UK and it is still registered here. We live in the Northern part of United Kingdom, in a beautiful sea-side city called Thurso.
We are a nice couple of pensioners (I have 64 and my beloved wife is 63 years old) and don't use the car so often. We love to spend our time on the road but now we use to travel by plane, so a car is no more useful for us. Also we sold our house  and bought a big farm here in Thurso. If you are really interested we are ready to make a trip to England and meet you personally. You can take the car for a test-drive and any kind of inspection.
Please tell us where do you live? I am sure that we will find a nice city in England to arrange a meeting, a region acceptable for us and for you in the same time. We have the faith that this can be a good deal!

P.S. I appreciate if we can continue our conversation by e-mail. The mobile signal is poor here, we have to walk over 2 miles for a good phone call.

Thank you and let me know
David

Its so bad and riddled with errors that I could barely contain myself laughing. The person clearly does not even reside in the UK, but got me thinking of how I could mess them about back.

So, should I:

a. Reply pretending to be genuinely interested and see how it pans out.

b. Reply pretending to be a fellow OAP with a long drawn out message about the rigours of old age (will probs copy/paste Tikays diary)

c. Reply with a load if salesman crap/scam type shit that usually targets old people.

d. Reply asking them if they are interested in my gold mine in Africa.

e. Any other ideas?

All correspondence to be ccp'd into the thread obv!

Don't get too crazy too soon. You need to hook them before you take the piss. The response should be that you are interested and after 3/4 replies you ask for them to send the £3.30 busfare

I've seen some fantastic scambaiting, yes, there's a name for it.

One of the best kept them on the hook for weeks and it was one of the... I'm the solicitor of Mr XYZ who has died leaving no relatives.  He has $1,000,000US waiting to be claimed. etc etc

They say they'll cut you in 50:50 but then say they need $5k from you to get the funds released.

The seasoned scambaiter said they'd be happy to send the $5k immediately but they'd need $500 to be table to release the $5k.

The original scammer fell for it and sent them $500.

lol.

Perhaps he's trying to make it more genuine that he has to trek miles to an internet cafe (rather than use a perfectly driveable BMW).

haha!
