Having been with o2 since they were BT cellnet my hand has been forced and I have cancelled my contract.  The last few years I have stayed with them because it was easier than moving but as they won't give me an iPhone without paying £50 or whatever I'm turning my back on them.

I've found a deal with mobilephonesdirect and wanted to know if anybody had dealt with them or has recently upgraded to the .  Its with vodafone and is for 600mins unlimited texts and 500mg of data.  The 24 month contract is £36pm and includes £58 cashback after 28 days.

I use 450 minutes a month, about 300 texts (max) and around 200mg of data.

Any help would be much appreciated.

They'll often give you a better deal when you tell them you're cancelling and want the PAC from them.  I was offered a great from O2 deal when I cancelled, shame they didn't offer me it straight away but I'd already bought my HTC.  Can't remember what it was exactly now but it was when it first came out and the deal was so much better than was available.

I did that and the woman called my bluff and just cancelled it...  they offered me unlimited calls, texts and 1gb of internet for £36 plus £60 for the phone.  Bearing in mind that I only use 450 mins less than 300 texts and 200mg of internet it wasnt that helpful. I guess I might give them a call back in the week and see if they will offer me something better.

Hate having to sort this stuff out!

Is it me or did they offer you more calls, more texts and more data for the same priceas changing?  Why don't you go for that?    One thing to bear in mind, Apple have restrictions on their products so you probably won't get it given away.

You can downgrade with O2, you might be able to change the 1gb internet to 500mb and save a couple of quid, also maybe able to downgrade the call plan.   I think you can do the data straight away but may have to wait 9 months for the calls.

Sorry yeah they did offer more than I can get with vodafone but they want to charge me for the phone, the problem is I will never use more than 600 mins or 500mg of data so no point paying £50 for the phone.  I'm more annoyed that I've been with them for 10 years and they don't have an option on a 2 year contract for a free iphone when orange and voda do.

I feel like i should be posting on the nit thread or moneysavingexpert, reading this back i look like such a huge nit but it annoys me that they don't just offer the best deal to somebody who has been with them so long.

After all this I am just going to ring up next week and get a free case or something...

I was with T-Mobile for quote a few years, and wanted to upgrade to the HTC One X as my contract had come to an end. They wouldn't give me the same deal I was on with the new phone, and wouldn't entertain discussing it, and this was with the 'special tea you speak to when getting a pac code.

So got the One X for free with 3, and am now with them for two years at least

My experience is to upgrade/renew your contract but thru a third party ie carphone warehouse they done me a great deal better than o2 they guarantee to beat your existing providers best offer .... Or they did!

T-Mobile suggested I did just that, and then get my existing number linked up to the new account.

Picked up my shiny new today. All my contacts etc transferred over by the friendly chap at carphonewarewhouse. They gave me £100 for my 3gs. Prob could have got more on eBay, but happy enough.

Just waiting for PAC code to kick in and I'm fully up and running!!
