Just be polite IMO. Ask them to remove your details. I used to work at an outbound call centre and if people were abusive they got bombarded with all sorts of shit.
I'm always polite but you get the odd wanker who pushes too hard. Of course as a salesperson myself I know how to fuck with them if they piss me off
I just find it remarkable that people are abusive/rude etc to somebody just doing a job, it might be a shit job but they are just doing what they are told...
Tied the polite pls take me off your list line loads of times, never works.
Regged for this tps, tks for posting it.

I find it remarkable that you find it remarkable that people are rude/abusive.
People don't ask to be harassed at home and much of the time they have got people's number in dubious circumstances.

Doesn't matter, if somebody who I haven't given my number to rings me for no justifiable reason to sell me shit I don't want then they will get told very frankly that I don't want it.
Fortunately I don't get these calls

I don't. I only give my number to reputable companies (who i dont mind calling) and don't use price comparison sites who sell you details to anybody that is interested.
My point is there are over a million call centre workers, they are just doing a job. whats the point of being rude to them?

Hopefully they will realise that their job is basically worthless if it relies on annoying and wasting the time of numerous people for every one person that might need the product and get another one.

You're right. Hope they all sign on with the traffic wardens following suit.

We get them daily. At least 3 times a week the same recorded message and a couple of times a 2 ringer that gives you a number to ring back. Makes me wonder has anyone actually used one of these services. My old man did it himself and after a lot of hard work sending emails and phone calls got about £7 grand back. He said that he was doing it himself through his lloyds bank and the amount of time and hassle it took I actually thought he may have been confused and signed up with one of these companies

I sporadically get these. Basically I don't answer the mobile from any unknown number now and I just look up the number on 'whocallsme' after to check it out. 9/10 it's a sales call and I don't get involved.

This is the easiast way to deal with it, then block the number on your phone. I've been getting loads for a fortnight from a PPI seller and VanCompare.
I try to not be rude because I'm aware they are doing a (totally shit) job and always remember a sales call I got years ago from a double glazing salesperson.
As he started his monotone spiel I interupted him to say "Look I haven't got any money" and this resigned voice said "neither have I love, that's why I have to do this horrible job", which was a pretty fair point.
If I'm bored though I will entertain myself: had a call from someone trying to get me to change my gas supplier a few months ago and told him I lived in a mobile home with no mod cons: another time told a PPI guy I lived in a halfway house and wasn't allowed a bank account etc etc.
Moving on to charity "chuggers" - the guys who stop you in the street trying to sign you up for the RSPCA or similar. As they approach you, saying "Goodmorning" or whatever opening line they are working with, simply put your hand up and say "Can I just stop you there?" They always say of course, then you just keep walking past. Never fails.

That is very good. My own one is:
"Excuse me, sir. Are you free to stop and talk to me, please?"
"I'd love to but a court order says I mustn't"
Blind-sides them every time. There's one woman who actually moves away when she recognises me.
Admittedly, that does make me feel a bit like some form of predator, but as long as it's just one chugger and not the entire High Street, I can still find it funny!
Loving the PPI call advice. Will def look into getting the calls blocked.

Today i got one, and to cut a long story short, the person wanted to fix my laptop over the phone, so he started by saying go to the controll panel so i went and sat down for about 4 mins and then returned to the phone. Then he says do something else so i went and sat down and carried on watching the snooker.. So this went on for a while till he worked out the laptop was in a differant room to the phone. He soon fired off lol..... ps the phone is at the side of the laptop

Another trick I know for answering on a landline is to pick up the phone but say nothing. Most recorded messages and some multi-dialer person based calls only run/connect their end if they hear a noise on the other end of the phone. They don't want to be wasting time on voicemails. A normal call will probably say something the other end to alert you, stalkers excluded.
