On Motorways with variable speed limits/cameras (such as just north of Nottingham) are the cameras active whilst the speed displayed is national/sign is blank?

By the way, anyone crashing on motorways, tell your insurers you would like me to represent you to defend the highways agency claim (they will probs say no but worth a try and I will do a better job than any other adjuster)

Between 25 and 28 on the 4 lane widened bit. Variable speed limit with signs on gantries. Fairly sure they're only active when a limit is displayed, but don't sue me if I'm wrong.
