Ah golf.
Just got back into golf after approx 10 years out the game after having a shoulder injury/operation.
Never really played it long enough/consistent enough to be any good at it, yet I love the game!
Golf has to be one of the strangest sports out there IMO. I say that as it frustrates the living hell out of 99% of players, it's very difficult initially to learn how to hit a ball, it's nearly impossible to master, I can hit 85 terribad shots in 1 round and 2 peaches, yet those two peaches usually seduce me into wanting to go back next weekend.
It's also one that really you can take up at any stage of your life, and theoretically, you can compete with anyone once you've grasped the basics. There aren't many games that you can say that about.
On a good day (weather wise) its difficult to beat being out on the course IMO with your buddies.
I currently have a full set of irons and a 3 wood, I need a driver in my life and will hopefully pick one up today, seen some pretty noobish players who still manage to cream drives of 250 + yards with graphite shafts and a driver with a head the size of frisbee, and I'm missing valuable yardage atm with my 4 iron!
Anyone on here play a lot? Where do you play etc? I'm looking at local courses in the east notts area, not sure which ones I should be checking out

Good post man, I'm sharing your enthusiasm for playing the game right now(shame the weather wont co-operate more)
I feel like a newb starting from scratch because I've pretty much changed everything in my game. Grip, stance, fade to draw, I've always played with a fade I had to aim left and bend it back, I worked it into my game and was half decent but It was short driving that was my main problem.
I bought a new driver recently I'm walking round the house with it in hand the last couple of weeks, gripping and re gripping ,how I havent smashed something in the house I dont know!
But yes I have the golf bug at the moment.

lol seriously, I played pitch and putt when I was young, I had a weird swing I used to aim about 10 yards left of the target and cut right across the ball (bit of a furyk re route) I always got sidespin but the thing is it worked, played for my county in all Irelands etc...So when I took up golf I never really changed swing, I had a pitch and putt swing but I was playing golf now and always just felt thats the way I swing I cant be arsed to try and swing it any other way, I cut across it and thats just the way it is, I was being ignorant pretty much! Probably because I was ok at golf I just felt meh I'm not gonna go pro or anything so I may aswell stay the way I am.
Most drives I hit had a gentle fade of about 10 yards, obv sometimes if I get it wrong it will slice alot worse than that or else i will drill it straight left with no fade but NEVER in my life could I hook it the way I swung it was impossible, a few youtube lessons recently told me I never got the club face square because I wasn't rolling my wrists, basic stuff I'm sure but again I was ignorant about swings I always thought it was too much jargon...So to cut to the chase, I'm driving my ball straighter and longer than ever and my irons have also being upped by about 2 clubs all from 1 simple youtube lesson!
Rambled there by my standards eh but yeah it is a fade!
Feel free to give some insight into your game too! and whoever else plays...bobby?

hehe. wha driver did you get btw?
i too bought a driver at the weekend. Took it down the driving range last night, OMG! Went a country mile. Never owned one before only really used irons so i wasnt sure how i'd get on. Cant wait to road test it on the course. I tried two clubs in the shop, an expensive ping and a cheaper wilson. no contest. wilson ftw ! was last years model so a bit cheaper.

I got a TaylorMade Burner 2.0 I believe theres a newer model out or coming out so the price was slashed on the driver i got.Pretty happy with it so far albeit its been mainly on the range , I only had one game recently and that was on a bog of a course, I'm looking forward to firm fairways and getting some run if we ever get some sun here in Ireland!
