I was thinking pre tourney selections for group winners, top scorer, highest scoring groups, total goals, cards, corners and any others we think of.

We could do it as say the golf comp we had for The Masters with a mythical £2  staked on each selection, most profit wins.

We can play for whatever amount of prize money we agree on that suits everyone.

Does anyone fancy playing in this?

Think Josedinho's going to organise something similar.

The group straight forecasts could be worth looking at.

I'm not fussy or possessive so if somebody has a good idea I'm more than happy to with it.

I usually run one between mates but what works for one doesn't work for all so I'll explain what we do and why and if people think it's rubbish it's not a problem or if people think it needs tweaks then we can do that.

"Scoring:

Group Stage – Correct Result (eg Poland win) = 5 Points

Correct Score (eg Poland 2-0 Greece) = 3 points

So a total of 8 points can be scored per group game.

Knockout Stages

10 Points will be scored for correctly naming a team in the quarter finals

20 Points will be scored for correctly naming a team in the semi finals.

35 Points will be scored for correctly naming a team in the final.

35 Points will be scored for correctly naming the European Champions.

(So if you put Spain to win the final you will score 70 points if they do)

If points are level a tie breaker will be used to settle the winner.

Tie Breaker:

How many goals will be scored during the competition?"

I then just print out a wall chart for them, they fill in the scores and fill in the knockout round teams (order irrelevant). Could also add top scorer and first red, hatrick and team to score 3 or 4 if somebody wants to suggest points for them.

It's pretty simple and weighted towards naming the winner. What tends to happen is the early rounds are their to gather points and are more of a contest against people that have picked the same winner as you because you are likely to need to pick the winner (or maybe pick both finalists) to win.
We do it basically due to the prestige factor. Not all my mates are punters so they wouldn't associate the best predictor being somebody that nailed a few longer odds correct scores early on and place much more emphasis on picking the winner, even though it could be a 3/1 shot.

Understand that it may not be the case on a betting forum! Need to decide if we are going down "tipster" or "prediction" route. If we do odds how are we going to do it as we don't get an SP and prices can move. Are we going to have to screenshot every selection or is somebody going to have to check?

Got plenty of time so just get opinions out there

Any interest in this? Don't want to be left sorting it with a day to go.
