Its a bit like calling a £10 a tenner, when its quite clearly a 'denzil' or a 'denny'

Think you mean Jenna.

Shotgun only for car seat selection. If you shout "SHOTGUN!"  in the departures lounge at Heathrow,  you will probably find it to be -EV

All other matters are covered under the international laws of baggsy, turnaround-touch-the-ground and you snooze you lose.

I agree this is situational dependent
Scenario to explain my viewpoint

You’re the middle child and both your siblings are a year above and below you, 8 9 and 10 respectively.  Your mother goes to get her hair done and leaves your father in charge. Your father considers cooking lunch and decides against it and instead takes you all to your grandma’s house to eat

As much as you reeling at the thought of another afternoon watching Emmerdale Farm your only recourse is to sit in the front of your fathers Volvo and choose the radio station

As calling the option doesn’t become valid until on neutral ground in this case the short walk from your front door to the car.  You hurriedly walk out the door while tucking your white shirt into your trousers and shout “Baggsy I’m in the front seat” and at the same time your younger sibling shouts “Shotgun”

In this situation a Baggsy will take precedence over a shotgun

However we had the same scenario as above but you replaced your younger brother with your Unemployed leech of an uncle the “Shotgun” would take precedence..

Great Question...

Great Answer!

For the record, my kids aged 7, 10, and 12 shout "Bagsie, Bagsie, Shotgun dead!"
which covers all options.

This is a very important question. Generally Shotgun.

Shotgun actually over-rules baggsy where the front seat of a car is concerned. If somebody baggsys the front seat at any point they will get it unless Shotgun is correctly called. This is obviously over-ruled if the person who baggsys the seat is:-

a) The owner of the car
b) The Wife/Girlfriend/Husband/Boyfriend etc of the owner of the car

In these cases calling Shotgun is mute. This is all clearly laid out in the rules of Shotgun.
