So the player to your left is carelessly looking at his hole cards and playing very loosely, you notice that the player to his left can see them and raises to isolate most of the time but then folds quickly on the flop if the loose player leads out or bets in position if he is checked to.

You also notice that the player two to your right seems to have spotted this aswell and is now 3 betting regularly preflop when this scenario occurs and it is folded round to him.

What action if any do you take?

Just pretend that you can see his cards as well and say 'watch out mate I can see your cards when you look at them - hold them down a bit'.

Either that or try and crane your neck a bit more so you can get in on the action.

Tell the player to protect his holecards... and make a point of embarrassing the snide on his left who has been able to peak and has not warned the poor guy. He should be ashamed of himself, so make sure he is.

I discretely warned him, my good deed for the day, but just wanted to check what others would have done.

Whilst on this topic, I saw something interesting happen in the January £500 at DTD; Jamie Dale was on the table and was very active (this might not be relevant) and he got involved in a big pot with a chinese lad who was sitting to my right. This player had lifted his cards too high and I could see them throughout the whole hand. He had  three clubs and was investing a lot of chips chasing a draw that missed on the river, Jamie led out with a HUGE bet on the river and the guy CALLED with 5 high and then insta-mucked. We can't say he misread his hand because he insta-mucked, and although i can't remember the actual figures for this hand, I do remember it was a significantly huge amount at that point in the tournament. I gain nothing by saying anything, so therefore I didn't. But was very weird to see this.

If there was ever a time to insist you saw both hands at showdown this was it?

You had everything to gain by seeing that hand. Get the TD over and get it shown.

But I did see it, the only difference would have been the rest of the table finding out about it.

So the whole table has no right to know somebody has called with shite and mucked his cards?

I'd be a bit suspicious if somebody called and instamucked the river even if I didn't know he had  three clubs.  The generous interpretation is that he called hoping his oppo instamucked as per that famous Roland De Wolfe clip, but the instamuck after the call suggests he didn't.  I have seen people get called out for chip passing in some pretty tenuous circumstances in poker.  This is not suggesting that his opponent was in on anything, but the TD should at least have a look here.

I am assuming his opponent didn't show before he mucked.

FWIW I have never asked for both players to show their cards, but think I could make an exception here.

No sorry, the winning hand WAS shown before he mucked. But he still made the call with nothing. The history on this guy was that he was tilting hard and Jamie had been bossing the table. And no way did they know each other before this tournament, one being scottish and the other chinese with broken english if I remember right.
