[LIVE] QQ - tough spot
«
on:

Hey guys, this happened to me last night at Gala Leicester and I was wondering whether or not I could have made a different move.
Format:
£30 MTT with 1 rebuy or 1 add on.
Stack size and blinds information:
We were in
level 3
and the blinds were 200-400
I was sitting in
MP2
with ~18,000
Dom was sitting in
CO
and had ~2000
Spencer was sitting in the
BB
and had ~25,000
Relevant player information:
Spencer is known for being really aggressive. I've saw him make huge shoves at small levels with hands like AJ to small suited connectors. He usually plays the hands at the top of his range more calmly than he does others.
Dom is at the top of the league leaderboard by a good amount of points. So far, I've not tangled with him much but with his stack size in this pot I'm not at all concerned.
Action:
Action folds round to me. Hero in
MP2
looks down at
and bets 1000. Dom in the
CO
shoves his remaining ~2000.
BU
and
SB
folds.
BB
shoves for ~25,000.

Because we have QQ.
And you describe the player as shoving hands such as AJ and suited connectors, but slows down a bit with the good hands. He's just shoved his stack in. It'd be rude not to do the same.

Well Im hoping one of the reasons you made it 1k (or less) pre was incase the shorty jams his 2k in (making sure the betting isnt capped from behind - ie giving you the option to re raise any call/raise behind).
The guy (jammer) is the most aggro on the table. He is never jamming the lot with AA or KK, and may well spazz out with 99-JJ. Big suited aces form a big part of his range (AK AQ etc).
So on the grounds there is no hand in his range which beats you, one hand you are flipping against, and the rest you crush, there is absolutely no reason to keep your chips out!

Yep, that's bang on. That is pretty much exactly what went through my head.
Just out of curiosity, what's a reasonable amount to be betting with pre-flop at this blind level? I thought 1000 was pretty standard.

1000 is a fine amount to raise generally here - the point is you don't want to raise to 1400 or something, have the shorty jam and get 3 callers, forcing you to see a 5 way flop with QQ.
I'm assuming you called with your QQ and won a nice big pot?

Pretty sure if this was the case that this thread would never exist

Didn't really want to post results (mainly because it makes no difference as to whether the play was right or not) but he showed JJ and spiked a J. Good job I didn't high five everyone though! Haha.

Tough because you pulled a muscle beating him into the pot? I think tens+ and ace king plus are My calling range here
Edit: AQ is prob a bad call, too deep
